rc68rr OP member R Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 144 NC	I soaked the driveshaft in evap o rust & it came out looking like new. Now what should I coat it with so it stays that way ? I would like it to have the correct finish on it. The u joint strap looks awsome you can read the date on it 10 9 67 (I need 1 strap Help ). Thanks everyone

ScottSmith_Harms Mr Wizzard Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 42,714 Spokane Washington	The stuff is about $29.00 a gal here at Harbor Frieght and it doesn't go very far concerning how many rusty parts it will derust, but it does work well when fresh. I'd use a slightly oversized length of PVC pipe to hold it for a drive shaft.

BTTG mopar B Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 582 PA	I had been paying $25/gallon at Summit as that was the cheapest i had found. last time I was at my local autozone i noticed they started carrying the gallon bottles for $19.99....previously they only had the quart containers for $9.99. cheapest i have ever seen it.

burdar Owen's Dad Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 7,363 Iowa	I calculated it out before I soaked my driveshaft. The shaft takes up most of the volume of the PVC so you don't need much EvapoRust at all. If I remember correctly, you only need a little over a gallon to submerge the driveshaft using 5" PVC.

ademon master A Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 6,906 IL, Aurora	I used it on a few bikes i restored, mostly the chrome parts, haven't tried it yet on engine/car stuff yet. works real nice on chrome, usually between a teaspoon to tablespoon per gallon is all you need for delicate stuff like chrome or items that have paint. You can probably go heavier for cast iron stuff. Here is a link to the musclebike forum where i learned about it. Anonymous Unregistered A	Quote: Now can someone tell me what to use to get it warm enough to apply the RPM Thanks Hi everyone, When we coated the driveshaft with RPM on Project Valiant we used a heat gun( I bought one at Harbour Freight for $9 on sale) and started at one end and slowly worked toward the other end. You can turn the driveshaft as you go to keep the shaft warm. Works good with two people but one person and saw horses works also. On a smooth surface you will probably notice some brush strokes but they can be handled at the end since you'll probably want to use a towel and a little heat to smooth out any brush strokes. Normally the shafts have a little sheen which can be achieved with a clean cloth towel once it cools. At the end of the day you are not going to have a lot of build up of RPM on the part for protection. In fact if you really apply a lot then it changes the appearance and could appear cloudy. We have actually melted RPM and dipped parts. You have to use the heat gun and brush to remove excess or it could be too thick. Just ensure that you have your part completely covered for best protection. Since it goes on glossy this should help verify coverage. A final pass with the heat gun allows the RPM to flow out and most brush strokes disappear on their own. I have used a similar technique on a late model K frame where I wanted to do both sides. Dave swapped the white Challenger over from the oil based product used in 2008 to RPM in an afternoon on the lift. It was dramatic how it changed the look of the car and got rid of that oily residue. All great questions and a great idea on the PVC pipe to soak the whole shaft.

Anyway if you do a google search you will find a lot about it, keep in mind i was using it for chrome plated parts, so not sure how and to what ratio to mix if your going to do something like a drive shaft or cyl head.
