If I was building and had the option to build lightweight or a power adder I'd build lightweight. It doesn't take as much engine to go fast when you're light and I'm not smart enough to make a lot of power.

That is a good point! LOL

Weight is relative. Every 100 lbs is roughly a tenth in the quarter mile, so you can adjust your impression for it somewhat. My junk is over 3200 lbs with driver. IMO, 2500 is light, 3000 is medium, 3800 is heavy. To be called featherlite, I would want to see less than 2400 lbs with driver.

im no HATER......anything fast gets my attention

Obviously there are smart bracket racers that take relatively mild engines and put them in light cars with 14 x 32 or whatever. they are concerned with consistency and they are still going fast for cheap. They are the smart racers out there. Meanwhile some of us chase that ET no matter what. LOL

Seriously, any car thats fast and well thought out gets my attention

Thanks ,its nice to see people think you worked hard to get a street tire car to work, the car was really not built to "impress" people, but rather to "surprise" them. Originally a street raced car from the late 80's early 90's... I just never changed the look of the car and left it the way it was. It was going in the 10's back then with no roll bar or anything....

Light is might and people some times will never know what it can really be capable of.
Light is to some people who think that just taking parts off like some deranged surgeon and calling it a day is the secret, but I've seen some cars cut up raw and idiot like and end up all over the place including on the bumper and breaking parts that way. It all has to be well thought out, balanced and executed to deliver the goods and keep the good parts alive. It's a lost art and what I some times call Pocket science.

I love lightweight cars, but just like anything else, it takes planning and forethought to get there. It's amazing how quick you can add the weight back with your choice of components.
Ditch the stockblock in favor of an aftermarket cast iron block, ditch the stock case powerglide in favor of a J&W setup, toss the sirroco radiator in favor of a 2 row aluminum job, add an alternator, or an extra battery...you've just improved the car dramatically, and added 200 lbs!!

Talk about impressed, Seriously, I'm impressed by old school craftsmen like Mr. P-body, who do nearly all of it themselves. Sure, thier cars may lack the fit and finish of a Pro job in certain areas, but The fact a guy can stand there and say, "I did this entire car" has always got my attention.

Another thing, is guys going fast in short, narrow, light cars, those Arrows, Omni chargers, Colts, Shadows, etc... I just shake my head, I love my Challenger's 110 wheelbase and wide stance, always feel comfortable even when I get out of the groove, but those things look twitchy and unforgiving!!

I'm not impressed by lite, I'm not impressed by heavy, N/A or power adder....blah...blah...blah....

I'm impressed by someone who knows how to WIN with their car, regardless of class, regardless of type of racing. Its the people that KNOW their cars that win.

Thats whats impressive.

What do you get for ET & MPH when you deduct 1355#s from a combination that runs 10.5s @ 126 MPH at 3755#s? I'm guessing low 9's at 145+ MPH with a pump-gas 440...

You get 9.23s at 146
EDIT
Now you have to figure out how to get rid of 1355#

Agreed!

I'm just going to keep what impresses me to myself.

I'm impressed with ANY combo thats really fast. Whether it be a tube chassis car, 10.5 car, or whatever. I'm impressed with NA, nitrous, turbo, supercharged, whatever. I like it all. I do have a little bias to the small tire over 3000# street legal type cars but they all impress me.

To each his own, is how I see it, and I'm impressed with anything that runs good for what it is.
What does yours run?

Well, the only NA car faster than 5.0sec at a quick 32 car meet I was at this summer was a big hemi with a single 4 barrel and he was running 4.90 in the 1/8th... It was an FHO hemi, and man it was awesome. It was not a Hemi 99 or on NOS...Thought that was pretty cool along with the sound of it.

I'm 2730 with me in it. I'm a 185 before the feast that Mopar Mafia Cooks put's on. Whatever run's a Mopar Powered Car/Dragster/Boat/Train/Motorcycle. I'm Impressed with ALL Mopar. Face the fact Boy and girls the more money you have the faster you want to go... . ??? does a 1/4 mile 6 second car make it down the track every time.

8 & 9 second cars do.at least you have a race.

I like all cars except when they launch and run a throttle stop for half the pass. Can we say boring

How about 97 inches at 155+ on d.o.t.'s
I know it is not as small as a colt but ya know.
I have only been scared once and that was a friday night at Firebird.
loaded it up and became a spectator

So maybe think about the ride & forget about the spectator.....your going to try and nail a 9.90....your on the stop for close to 3 seconds.....you come off the stop and still run close to 170mph.....some faster, for me 168mph....so you think that is boring....not

Why not run a 7.90 and think about the spectator and track owner

What class do you guys run that draws 70-100 cars per class..besides Handicap/Brackets

Spectators only want to see Jets, Wheelstanders & 300MPH Passes....they could give a crap about anything else

How about this a light car that does not look like a light car, stir in whatever combo you want (N/A, spray, boost) that is what impresses me. I was never a fan of the tin interior gigantic tire cars (no offense intended) I always liked the stock look that hauls.

I've been 141 in my brother's AMX on 14X32's, great on a good track, not so much fun on a marginal one!!

Agree with the small tire stock look that hauls the mail. Looks could be deceiving. A fella on here with a 67 Coronet wonders if his 3600 lb can come down to 3000. Yes and no. He can probably get close to it at 3200 by being creative and it would still retain the steel body panels, roll down windows, carpet, bumpers, lights, etc.

Well planned and committed it all narrows down from socket science morphing into Rocket science morphing into Pocket science.

Come out to a cecil street car shootout. Look at the Yellowbullet nationals and tell me if you have ever had a crowd turnout like that at a bracket race. Cecil gets a real good crowd turn out for there monthly street car shootout because it is a good show for the fans. Last yellowbullet had 85 cars show up for x275 and only 32 make the show. This crowd buts alot of dollars in the track owners pocket so he can keep the track open. With all the problems in the econmy and the amount of tracks closing maybe we need to think about how to make a track survive so our sport can continue on. Yes the regular brackets do some for a track owner but he still has payouts, supplies etc. to make it work, as where a spectator is just money in his pocket.

and that's fine.....probably why the tracks down here are doing the same thing....

Street Nationals (Bradenton & Orlando)
Ducks Radial Tire Races (SGMP & Bradenton)
Tomato Nationals at IRR
Heads up Madness at PBIR

and they all have their own bracket programs as well

Just can't stand it when people start whining about the Super Classes....they aren't broke so don't try to fix them

I don't mind 14x32s on a car, but they have to FIT and look right at home. If a car is backhalfed it shouldn't look like it still has SS springs on it.

Thats whats impressive.

Ive always been impressed and respected the builders/drivers that run the light short wheelbase cars. Just like drag bikes and cars like Jimmys Dart with the crazy motor. Lil rocket ships.

I will stick to my 10.5 wide track mid weight car thats drives easy and I can make mistakes without all hell breaking loose.

I sorta understand the PA vs NA but I dont know why people get bent out of light small cars when so many will take a B body and glass it out to get light but wouldnt run a daytona like car?????

And here again, when its a heavy car running big numbers NA, they get alot of attention.
