I have this here Dana 60



It is a brand new 8 lug single wheel "D" truck Dana, never ran unit with a 4.10 posi (Trac-Loc). It's going in the Ghetto-X, but I've never tried to use a Trac-Loc with 650+ hp (new bullet too ) and wondered if I should just spool it and forget it or attempt to use the posi? I will beat it like a red headed step-child (no red headed step children were harmed in the writing of this post ) and don't want to have to worry about the rearend.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

i tore up a posi with the same hp. go with the spool. it'll be ok on the street. seeya.

I have about 100 passes on the same set-up,,,no problems yet....foot braking. I have a brake in my trans, but not using it due to the posi unit..

You only about 200 hp beyond what a trac lock can handle.

It might last for a while, but that question mark will always be there. It won't be a matter of "if", but "when".

I don't recommend running 650 hp through a 30 spline Track-Lock.

What about a power loc?

A 35 spline Power-Lock is much stronger.

Cass, do you know what the last year the power-loc was used? I'll just have to pop the cover and take a peek to be sure. I just assumed it was too late to have a power-loc?

As far as I know, the factory started installing Track-Locks in 1971 truck rears.

Since my 30 spline D60 had a trac loc, and I knew I would be over the power limits.....

I bought a used 16 spline power loc on ebay for $145.

I then bought 30 spline side gears for $40.00

Sold the 30 spline trac loc on ebay for $105.00

I dont make 650hp, but I would be making 400 with the spray. Since I am in the proces of building the rear end, now is the perfect time to upgrade.

I didnt want the trac lock to be the weak link.

My dana with a spool was in the car when I bought it over 25 years ago.I am much higher than 650 hp Over 60k miles on it,3 engines and several engine rebuilds.
