I was inspired by the smogger 440 thread to ask what some times (et, mph) have been seen with a stock smogger 360. Please give combinations(cam, induction, exhaust, estimated compression, vehicle weight, ect.)
I'll start by saying I saw a duster run very high 12's and the guy told me it was a stock low compresion (8:1) long block with a 509 MP cam and 4.10 gears. I think it had open headers.
Thanks

1977 Plymouth Volare wagon 3350# with driver, 8:1 dish piston motor, 3500 Dymamic w/ manual valve body, 4.56's on 9" tires. .484 Purple Shaft, 1 5/8 headers w/ mufflers, stone stock 587 smogger heads. Best is 13.21 @ 101. Stock eliminator guys are getting low 11's out of their stuff (Jerry Bennett, the Wann's, etc)

I saw a 4 door abody runs similar times at norwalk (late 90's or early 2000's)with a trap speed of 108 mph. The guy said it was a junk 360 with new MP swirl port heads that he spent a few hours on with a die grinder. The car had closed exhaust if I remember correctly.

Mazzolini runs 10's with a smogger 318. Low compression pistons, cast iron heads, Qjet carb, etc.
Probly just running a summit cam too.
Just to clarify, I am not asking about super stockers with no expense spared. Just low dollar motors that run better than expexted.
Although it interesting how some of those cars run.

Rapid, can we assume perhaps, you're trying to find the best bang for your money? If you are quite happy with a somewhat less popular body, like a late Valiant/Dart/Scamp etc you'll be money ahead. Some folks just have to have a Demon or 2nd gen Barracuda, and they tend to be a bit more pricey. I have $4700 in my Volare wagon, including the cost of the car. I've raced it ten years and the 360 smogger I built for it still has good compression and oil pressure.

Andy's right, while Mazz may have a few bucks in his Sebring, that is one screaming son-of-a-gun.
And, finally, while I don't want to hijack this thread, there has been surge in early A-body 273 combos for Stock and Super Stock being built, and its got the 283 Chevy guys as nervious as a kitty in a room full of rocking chairs. I've read where a 273 Valiant has been in the 11's !!
