Drive my 300m special, after awhile when coming to a stop, the car will make a hard down shift, and then be in limp mode. i can turn the car off and restart it and it will be out of limp mode, but then when i come to another stop, or slow down enough that it would down shift, it will go back into limp mode. causes? I read somewhere that the battery cable ends need replaced. will do that tomorrow, but wondered if anyone else had issues or an idea about this?

More likely, it is either the transmission input or output sensors. If either fail, the car goes into limp mode. One of them may be ready to quit. I have heard they are not too expensive or hard to replace yourself (but I have not had to replace mine yet).

Doug, definitely fix the cable ends before worrying too much about transmission woes. I read an article today in GEARS magazine(a trans speciality mag) about chrysler transmissions being extremely succeptable to faults resulting from not enough voltage/bad grounds. They even say that the car will start fine like no problems with battery but still have problems.
thanks Lonnie, changing the cable ends tomorrow, hope it fixes the issue, if not just hoping to get an idea what would be next step.

Have you checked to see what code it's throwing?
turn the key 3 times, only code showing is p0456, hook it up to a diagnostic machine, only code showing is p0456.

May have been a solenoid in the solenoid pack as it comes on the valve body also. Some places take no chances and replace the valve body with the solenoid pack. Glad you got it fixed. Ron

I remember my sister's minivan having similar issues. All the shops wanted to rebuild the transmission.
I fixed it by replacing the wire connectors to the solenoid pack. It cost less than $20.
