Nope, all sheetmetal and the windshield trim. I've got a good Powerflite automatic sitting on the floor looking for a new home, but that stick-shift stuff can be tough to find. Have you asked over at www.forwardlook.net? There is a guy that posts over there by the name of "Big M". Has a FL wrecking yard in California. I've done business with him. Always an honest deal.

Everybodys is probably tired of seeing the 57 Plymouth in my sig line so here is the 57 Dodge I sold a few years back. I pulled the 325 Poly and powerflight and stuffed in a dual quad 440 and 64 PB torqueflight.

That is gorgeous John! I had one (Windsor) in 1967 that was badly rusted then. I pulled the 354 Poly and installed a 392 I had built. That car was a lot of fun for a 16 year old kid in High School. I even won my first street race with it against a 57 Chevy! Boy were all the guys surprised! I also made my first passes on a drag strip in that car. Love your car John! Mark

Not sure, it was that color when I bought the car; it's some shade of metallic brown with golden highlights under some lights, and just muddy-color under others. I've attached a pic of how it looked when I first brought it home. Other than the wheels and tires, and some hand polishing of the paint, I've mostly left the outside alone and concentrated on the mechanics, which were a mess. If I live long enough and get some other projects out of the way, I'll replace/improve some of the prior rust repair and put a better paint job on it.

I see where the design inspiration came from for the rear fenders on the 57 Chevy. Wow that it a slick looking car and probably my favourite of the Forward Look era

Here's a friends 58 Spring Special. It's about as original as they come except for the 413 he put in 20 years ago. Still drives it about once every 9 months or so.

Here's mine as it was when I got it. The straightaxle is still under it, but the poly/3-speed is out in favor of a 360/833. Also swapped the old rear for an E-body unit and flopped in a set of 3.73's. Using seats from an old Cordoba (near perfect fit), and if things go well with the Demon the next couple of months, I'll get some more done to it this summer!

great topic,,, i love the late 50 early 60 big forward loook mopars,,,not enough of them to go around for sure,,,
i seen on the new show icon the american hot rod with foose,,,they were saying a guy from GM,,was spying on chrysler and got wind of the fins they had comming,,,said thats what lead to a quick redesign of the 59 impala fins,,,
QUESTION the shortened 57 where it is ??and does it have a 392 hemi and manual tranny ?? if so that car has roots in my home town,,and there are a ton of stories to go with it,,,hope to get a reply thanks in advance

I met the owner/builder of the 57 at Tulsa, I believe this name was Tom, and as I recall he's out of Colorado (Denver?).
Yep it's got a 392 and 833 4 speed. It’s a really neat car and if I could do decent bodywork I would love to attempt to do something like it.
I’m guessing Tulsa was the biggest gathering of Forward Look era cars that has ever taken place, (and the Prowler contingent that came down was pretty impressive too)…..all in all in spite of the condition of the buried car it was a great place to be.
Besides the outside show there were some really nice cars in the indoor show. I really like this Lee Petty re-creation.

Besides my own 57 Plymouth, this is probably my favorite one, the 1957 Hot Rod Magazine Special (Suddenly) that held records at both Daytona and Bonneville. The real one (pictured) disappeared years ago but there are a couple of re-creations out there.

I bought this in 1968. It sat for a couple months until I saved enough money for insurance. It was the cleanest car in Toledo! It met it's demise at an intersection mishap. Marty Marysville, OH

1958 Coronet 2dr hardtop owned by a friend in the early 1960's. He replaced the stock engine with a 392 hemi out of a 57 New Yorker. Traded it January 1966 for a new Hemi Belvedere 4-speed which he still owns.

A tapered axle 8 3/4 if it was a V-8.
My memory is that six cylinder cars had a very similar looking 8 1/4 with a drop-out chunk.
I don't remember what year Mopar started using 8 3/4 rears; my 56 Plymouth has a similar looking rear, but it is definitely not an 8 3/4 and AFAIK, nothing interchanges with an 8 3/4.

Taken at a freinds house this saturday. The first four ( not the challenger) on the left are his.......he has 7 more in the garage awaiting restoration, then my wagon, Beautiful belvedere, and a loaded '57 Fury that was painted red in 1958. It was ordered for a dealers wife in Texas. Ac, ps, pb, pw, power seat, Benrus steering wheel clock, multi speed wipers, windshield washers and more.

The Hemi was not available in any Plymouth during the Forward Look years.

Yeah, the 55 Plymouth V-8 is actually a Dodge poly engine, probably a 259. Plymouth didn't get its own V-8 until 56.
The 55 Plymouth/Dodge poly can be converted to a hemi using Dodge hemi heads. Can't do that with the Plymouth V-8 (which eventually got used in Dodges, but is a completely different motor than the 1953-58 Dodge hemi/poly).

Here's a 56 Plymouth 277 poly. Among other differences, the valve covers are scalloped differently than the Dodge poly. The later 318 poly is just a bored/stroked version of the 277.
(Note: some 56 Plymouths still had Dodge poly engines, as Plymouth was not geared up for full production of its new V-8. In 57, all Plymouths used Plymouth poly's)

Here is a picture of my 61 Phoenix. Car came from the factory with the Dart D500 361 4 barrel motor. Somewhere along the way a 61 383 HP single 4 barrel found it's way between the fenders. This was the "standard" D500 motor for the 61 Polara and it is date coded about 2 weeks before my car was built. Pretty odd coincidence. Hopefully if I can ever find a complete long ram setup for a reasonable (I know...wishful thinking) cost I would love to do that upgrade. Getting ready to do a power front disc brake conversion in the next week or so as the old drum system with single master is plain old worn out and scary!

Another pic of 61 Phoenix. By the way...does anyone know where I can get the emblem you see on the front fender drivers side for the passenger side?? I ended up with 2 drivers sides emblems like an idiot and you can't reverse them.

OK, this is cheating a bit, I guess, but here's a 59 Plymouth that was one of the feature cars in the July 1961 issue of Custom Rodder. I bought the magazine new, and never forgot the car, so a couple of decades after I lost the original magazine, I got a replacement off ebay. Bronze Bomb:
