That could be a million dollar question as you will get a few different opinions. I am no fulltime racer as years ago I bracket raced alot but now I just hit a T & T a few times a year. My self I like the Hoosier radial slicks I have been using on my street car. 30 x 9 but on a decent track will hook great on just SS springs. Ron

I like Mickey Thompson's and they are the only brand I will run. I know a lot of time people under inflate them, Mickey's like more air pressure usually than any other brand.

Thats more of a personal thing with tires and the
way the car is set up... I've run 3 different brands...
M/T, Hoosier and Phoenix... I got the most passes out
of the M/T... got the best 60' on the Hoosier with
the Phoenix right there also( 1.19 60') but got less
passes with the Hoosier and Phoenix... I can pretty
much tell you how many passes are on the Hoosiers based
on the 60' numbers... I get 25 passes at 1.19, then
another 25 at 1.20, 25 at 1.21 and it will stay right
around 1.21 to 1.22 till about 125 passes total, then
it falls way off to like 1.26... I dont do the big
burnout thing OTHER THAN the first burnout when new...
even when I pull the tires off the tread surface has
a good bit left but the side walls dont work for me
any longer... and I use tubes on all of them

Mr P how are the phoenix compared to the hoosier? Can you break it down like the hoosiers? Just curious as me and a friend always disagree on this, I am hoosier and he's phoenix.

In my street / strip car I had way better traction with goodyear compared to Hoosier & MT's but as said it will all depends on personal taste and the car's setup.
For me it's goodyear so far, also with the new car.

We ran a Hemi stocker back in the '90's. Most runs were on M/T biased ply. If we needed to qualify higher or had a heads-up run we'd switch to Goodyear radials. I've run M/T's on my bracket car and I'm satisfied with them.

To me they were almost the same tire... MAYBE the edge
goes to the Hoosier but very close

After last year I am a Phoenix guy.

M/T a close second.

Are Phoenix tires available now again?

Phoenix is owned by Coker tire ,since last year and is very available. My first set 4 years ago didn't last ,but when I learned they don't need a big burnout ,the longevity is there, and every set I've had will hook right down to the cord. PHOENIX for me !

i like m/t they hook, and the rubber holds up well over time.
i had a brand new set of hoosiers get cracks all over the sidewalls within one year of purchase. then i found out they have had problems with sidewalls cracking for years.

I've onle ever run Hoosiers and have never had a problem hooking but now I want to go a 1" taller tire as I was running 29x10.5 w but to keep the width I cant find a 30x11 in a hoosier. The only one that looks like they make them is Goodyear. Dont mind changing but already have Hoosier Fronts

Phoenix now and Firestone before that.Phoenix is the same as the Firestones.I use Phoenix as they last a long time, are consistant and I've never had any problem with the car not being able to hook.

Goodyears never ran, 'stones' where good but very short life!
Ran some old m & h, they where decent but inconsistant on hook.

Mickey Thompson is the best in my book. They are priced well, they work/hook, and they last a long time. Also, they support racers and races. What else do you want from a tire and a company?
