Hey Fellas.

At "Chrysler's at Carlisle" this July I bought a pair of NOS rear leaf springs for my 83' Diplomat and found out today when I installed them that they are possibly the wrong ones for my car.
I bought them from a heavy set fella that is always there at Carlisle selling NOS Diplomat/Grand Fury Police car stuff. I believe the springs are the wrong units because as the car sits on its own weight, one rear spring shackle is sitting leaning towards the rear of the car slightly(correct angle) and the other side the rear spring shackle is sitting all the way leaning to the front of the car. The car is also way jacked up in the air at the rear. What gives?

Did I get had?

Do I have to get a whole new pair, and from where?

Are the Dodge Diplomats different from the Plymouth Grand Fury's?

Maybe they both have different wheelbases like the older cars from Dodge and Plymouth.

I paid 250 Dollars and may be stuck with them.

I have a pair I took off a Diplomat police car years ago, don't have any idea how many miles are on them. Anyway if you want to try them, you can have the pair for $30+ shipping. If you are interested ,respond to my email at: jglover002@centurytel.net. Jerry

Thank you for the offer, but I'd rather have new ones to go with everything else I have installed so far.
Used ones may sag as bad as my old ones which I just took off.

Is this what you are saying?

Your car sits level but your shackle angles are different.
Definately wrong.

Measure your leaf spring length or swap side to side to compare?
Do they look different from each other before install?

You can get a new set of HD 5-leaf springs from John R Spring in MI for $200/pair. www.johnrspring.com

...or order them through JC Whitney, and they will be drop shipped from John R Spring.

No, the car is not sitting level. It is sitting jacked up in the back and nose down at the front like those old 70's street Hot Rods.

The drivers shackle sits in the right angle, the Passenger side totally locked in the forward position against the chassis rail. Both springs have the same part #.
Unlike the old cars, I maybe think they use the same part number for both side springs on these later cars.

Try raising the car up to reverse the way the shackly lays.

Tom

You may have to take the shacle off and reinstall it, if both springs measure the same you should be able to reset them.

If you put them beside the old springs do they look close at all? Both sides should be the same length so everything should pretty much look the same when theyre on the car.

I did lay them next to each other before installing and the new ones were an inch or so shorter because of their new arch.
The old ones were flat and worn so they seemed longer. I'm going to try and raise the car and see what happens.

72chalorange,
You were right on the dime.
I raised the car and the shackle did not move, so I took a pry bar and wedged against the shackle and it gave way and swung towards the rear of the car. The spring settled onto its rightful angle thereafter. Now the car is sitting level and just a little above stock height because of the HD spring arch.

Thank you much guy's.
I already had a contract out on the poor chap in Carlisle. KIDDIN' LOL.
