While working on the Challenger 3 Speaker Dash, I can not find an aftermarket speaker that will fit the mounting areas. I do have the correct grilles and mounting hardware. This is not a concours resto but really nice occasional driver and I would rather not cut the dash frame. Can I do it without cutting the dash frame for the small outboard speakers? What is the best solution for this.

Thanks, Joe

Here is company that has lots of different sizes:

http://mcmelectronics.com/search.aspx?C=&K=speakers

Not sure of the right one that fits the dash but if anyone has the right size, this place will.

Can someone chime on the correct size speakers that go into the dash, and/or a specific selection or choice. I so see the one post above has a vendor, anyone else?

Turnswitch.com is now offering the correct outer speakers for the E body 3 speaker dash (as well as all other mopar replacement speakers).

Do the turnswitch speakers work well with aftermarket CD players, or only with the factory radio?

I cut the dash frame on mine and will be using kicker 3.5 inch round speakers. I did that on my 'cuda and it sounds great.

I don't know about the E-body three speaker dash but in a B-body the Alpine SPS-080A 3 1/2" speakers drop in without a problem. If it's a stock radio you might want to go the turnswitch route because of the ohm difference.

Thanks for the input everyone. The original center speaker is intact. But it is so old it probably would not take too much use. BIGMONEY and Spike, I'll look at the company you suggested for a center speaker replacement. I did see one on the MCM site mentioned that might work for the center replacement also.

My current thoughts are to hook the factory radio up to that speaker so that it works, and then to "hide" a modern tuner and wire it into the front outboard and the rear package tray.

If your wanting to keep it stock, you can have originals reconed. I had quite a few reconed by someone up in Mich. Cost was about 37.00 per, did'nt matter what size. PM me if you want his #

That sounds like a pretty good setup, best of both worlds. My center speaker doesn't do much with my aftermarket CD player in the 'cuda anyway.

Most GOOD aftermarket speakers will not fit on the driver side because of there bigger magnets that hang down on the switches on the switch panel but you can just put two 3 1/2 speakers in place of the center speaker as there is pleanty of room under there. I used two infinty cappa speakers there on my Challenger from cruchfield as Im going for a more modern sound quality with power amps and cd player. You can use the infinity cappas in the 2 sides but some modification of the dash frame and speaker besel will be required. It was just easier to use the center speaker hole for me....good luck.

Thanks for that offer. I do not have the original outboards speakers to send off. My outboard speaker covers came with a newer Pioneer speakers that will not fit. I may send him the center speaker if I keep it in place. Thanks for the offer and I will let you know if I need his info.

I didn't even look at the driver side. Thanks for the heads up and the tip about the 3 1/2s

RS was my first stop and the guy said they had not sold Car speakers in about 10 years. Sounds like you got yours just in time.

The new center speakers from turnswitch.com just came out, just released, same specs as stock - cost about $50. I got mine last month after someone here posted that they were finally available. Nice guy there, think about giving him a call, unless you want stock speakers, should call the guy Challenger1 uses.

Thats intersting cause I've installed Infinity, Boston Accoustic, Polk Audio & JBL 3.5's in various E bodies & the only thing that hits is the steel dash frame which is pretty easy to notch for clearance & the mod is completely invisible unless you take things apart...

Some will work if the magnet does not hang down to far but you better check it with the switches in place. On my Challenger it was so easy just to put both in the center speaker hole were there was a ton of clearance.

I met a guy that put an 8 inch subwoofer under his center dash 4x10 opening. Only works on non AC cars though, the center AC vent ducting gets in the way. (ducting could probably be modified though) It sounded good, and you couldn't tell it was in there just by looking, but he said he had to make REAL sure everything was tight and stayed that way so the dash didn't rattle.

That's why I liked the Alpine speakers I posted, the magnet does not hang down low. There is not much room in a B-body three speaker dash and out of all the speakers I tried the Alpines and a set from Radio Shack were the only ones to fit with no magnet interference.
