Any trouble running on or under your indexes ? Is the 2.08 valve stage v head legal?

The Marcum family out of Ohio(?) had one in a Dart Sport, then in a Challenger several years ago. The indexes may have ben lowered since then, but not enough to prevent running under if the engine is built well while not resorting to any high-doller "tricks".

I believe the Dart ran in E/CM and the Challenger ran in F/CM.

There may have been one in a '68 Cuda. But I don't believe it's been run for quite a while either.

The engine is a "paper combo" that was drawn up in the infancy of crate motor Stock. This was before Mopar had any big blocks to compete against the Fords and Chevies. It's also been de-factored from the original 410 hp to 405. Double-check with IHRA tech to confirm.

440 crate motor info

As for the heads, the 2.08/1.74 Stage head legality would need to be confirmed with them also. They've been out of production for a long time.

This engine is the same as a legal 70-71 440-6 bbl engine. You are just allowed more lift and a single 850 cfm carb. Lift on the 70 6 bbl engine is .455" Intake & .470" exhaust. The lift on the 71 6 bbl engine is .468" intake and .483" Exhaust. The crate engine is allowed .533" lift Intake & Exhaust. The 850 holley is a wash. I would think a well prepare 440 crate engine could make somewhere around 600hp. Jim

I'm sure my "well prepared'" engine would be lucky to get 450 hp at the flywheel , but ya never know. How does one get 600 hp out of a set of stock, legal valve jobbed, non acid ported 906 or one of the "smogger" heads? I haven't figured that out yet

That's where the extra "Stocker tricks" come in as well as paying attention to ALL the details - blueprinting to minimum specs, low tension rings, honing with deck plates, light oil, get with the cam manufacturer for a "Stocker" cam with the spec lift, but lots more duration & other custom specs........just for starters. But you don't need to get that much out of it since the E/CM index is only 11.50. I don't have the min. race weight handy.

As long as you can run under that, your good to go. Just gotta watch for any other E/CM cars that you might get matched up against on the ladder.

IHRA Stock class indexes.

No, everything you said sounds correct. Good point to bring up the short block similarities to a 440-6 as I've been told that also a while back. IHRA just came up with an easily duplicated combo. I guess 600 HP is needed to run mid-low 10's in A/B/C Stock. But luckily the IHRA CM indexes are a little softer.

If my car hadn't been mini tubbed,I'd run that class and engine combo. The engine combo is IMHO,one of the cheaper ones to build.
