Hey Folks, I'm tearing into my 69 Charger RT/SE (original, unrestored, bought from original owner so I know the car's never been apart) and degreased the rear axle and found several markings. I have a few questions that I need some confirmation on: 1. It appears that my 3 digit axle code on the driver's side tube has weathered away. I do not have a broadcast sheet to find the code. My car has the A36 axle package (3.55 Sure Grip) so I was thinking my code should be 594. Is that right? 2. I found several markings on my center chunk including my carrier's build date of 11-26 clearly visible under the left side rid. Orange blop by the fill plug, and I see evidence of stripes on the underside of the carrier. It appears there are 3 White and 1 Orange on the underside of the carrier with the orange one being the rear most stripe. These are pretty large stripes. I know it represents the ratio and if it's a Sure Grip or not. Is it 3 white for 3.55 and the orange is for the suregrip? Not sure what the code of the stripes is, but I want to make sure what I'm seeing is right for my A36 Package: 3 white and 1 Orange. 3. I also found on the back of the housing the large yellow B for 69 B-body, and a white circle and it's either a slash or an X. I can't make out if it's an X inside the circle or just a slash due to wear, but it seems it's just a slash as it's pretty worn to see the other slash making an X. Searches on this just seem to confuse me more. I found one claim that non-sure grip cars had a circle with a slash, and sure grip cars were circle and an X. He was refering to 68 axles. Another 69 Charger I had was a 3.23 open and it had the yellow B and a circle and an X clearly visible. Original axle as denoted by the 3 digit axle code, dates, and history of the car. So what gives? Circle and Slash means sure grip, Circle and X means non-sure grip in 69? Did they change that year to year? Thanks Guys. I appreciate the input. Cheers

I have a parts book for '69, so we could probably find the 3-digit number for the axle tube if someone doesn't chime in earlier.

Thanks Morty for the corroboration, and I did find that is the correct 3 digit broadcast sheet code for my axle. Troy, although I appreciate the input, I know what they look like, and that's not what I was asking. Your axle is the same as on Dan's 68 I restored. 242 code, open 3.23. The circle and the X or slash is the issue I was asking about since I am seeing different opinions on the subject. So two of the three solved: BS code and the three whites and one orange. What's the verdict on the circle and slash or X? Cheers

I believe the circle with the "X" or slash was the inspection marker that gearlube was installed... no?
