I have a 68 roadrunner that I am putting together but did not take apart. I've restored and reinstalled the dash but have a bulb with no home. I think it is the 4 speed reverse indicator but I don't have one on the dash. On sites it has been mentioned that it is to be located one and half inch left of the ashtray just under the lower pad. I don't have a hole there. There is a hole lower down by the edge of the dash. I don't have the housing so can someone let me know if there should be a hole on the dash just under the lower pad or does this thing mount some other way? I did notice that company pamphlet show the reverse light as at the total bottom edge of the dash not up by the dashpad. Thanks.

Does anyone have an idea on this? I have tried looking at dash pictures but it is very difficult to see how this is set up.

If you don't have a hole in your dash frame in the obvious location for a reverse light, then the bulb may go to something else. Can you take a picture of the component you're referring to? It could shed some light on the subject...

Here's the reverse light on my 69 and 68s should be the same. The Reverse light is held into the dash with a big nut on the back of the housing. Much like the side marker lights are installed on a 68. Also notice the ignition light hole. Maybe it's that too if you have the light package?? Disregard the rats nest under the dash, I'm in the middle of diassembling and rewiring the entire dash with new harnesses. Hope that helps!

Cheers

Here's a picture of the bulb and wire. Looks like it goes to the bottom of the wiring harness in the corner.

If you have an early 68 it came with a inland shifter and no reverse light. My gtx is an early one with a inland and though I have a hurst unit now have not added the reverse light. I really do not need a light to tell me I am in reverse. Does your car have a sliding ashtray as most of the early cars came that way. I believe that the hurst units replaced the inland in jan 69.

Makes me feel a lot better. I don't have a hole for the reverse light as I now see where it goes. It has an Inland shifter and is an early car. I now also think that light may be for the ignition because it has the light package although I wasn't sure the harness was original to the car. Thanks to everyone who responded.
