I mean why do you have the A , B , E , F or whatever body Mopar that you race or drive ? I used to race an A-body years ago as I figured they were the lightest Mopar muscle cars so they would be the best race cars for performance. But as I got older I really did not care as much about that as the love I had for the vintage race Mopars no matter what body line they were. And I have always felt the 62 - 64 Max Wedge cars were some of the fastest Mopars ever built. I felt that back in the 60's you could have bought a Max Wedge car and tagged it and then just slapped a set of slicks or cheater slicks on it and pop the exh cutouts off. Then make sure the tune was good and go run mid to high 12's around 110 to 112 mph ! And anyone could do it since they were street legal. I have always felt they were one of if not the fastest street leagal Mopar muscle car you could buy in the muscle car era. I just dont know many other stock muscle cars that you could slap on slicks and run 12's at over 110 mph. And I love the vintage Superstock Mopars of that era that were raced in Superstock with basically stock engines. I mean they had to run the stock cam that the factory put in them. Pretty much they just had headers and slicks added to them. As the late 60's came around the SS cars were starting to get much more modified as the rules got more flexable. Anyway thats one of the reasons I always felt the Max Wedge cars were one of the fastest muscle cars of the era and I love the looks of them believe it or not. So I was curious what reasons you have for owning the Mopar you have ? Ron

Because my first car was a '73 340 Cuda I bought for $1800 and I loved that car...Fast and fun and reliable. Ever since all I have owned are E-body's and a couple of other cars...I like E-body's best.

My Dad had nothing but Mopars from 1954 to 1979 approx one new every 3 years.
And after growing up with them I never left...

I've had a 71 Duster 340, 72 Demon 340. 69 Dart Swinger 340, 68 Valiant 4 door that I put a 383 in, 68 Valiant with a W-2 340 and currently the Belvedere II.

I have always had a thing for the late '60's Darts as I grew up with them. Dad had a '68 GTS since new and bought mom a '69 GTS to drive as our family car for most of my mid childhood. Dad started racing a '68 GTS in the mid to late '70s and is the same car that Wheelsup68 drives today. So, that is what influenced the purchase of my '67 Dart.

My father had a '68 Dart GTS "resto-mod" when I was a baby. It didn't have factory paint but it did have a 340. He sold that when I was really young (I was in the second grade). I was sad. A few years later my mother bought him the '72 swinger he currently owns. I helped him out (watched and learned basically) rebuild the car, install the 360 stroker engine and what not. He bought the '68 back when I was a junior in high school and I got to be it's care taker for the summer. Unfortunately, he sold the '68 again at the end of the summer but I have been absolutely hooked on small block A-bodies since. My father found my Duster and my grandfather gave me his old 340. To finish this long winded story off, I like to think my Duster and I were destined to be together.

Ryan "Bigs" '73 Duster (BLKDUST) - Black, 100% factory sheet metal, flat hood, 346 cid, J Heads, and a bench seat. http://s268.photobucket.com/albums/jj1/bigsbigelow/ Best to date: 12.40 @ 109 mph

Early b bodies are my dream cars but I can't afford them. My 74 dart
Sport has factory paint that shines like new and was affordable as a
Survivor. I don't have the space/time/cash to restore a cheaper
B body shell project. In all this ive fallen completely in love with
My car! It's different in the masses of A bodies!!!

I always liked the 70 Darts, My HS buddy bought a Swinger 340 new in early 70 and I loved it. When it was time to build a race car I was looking for a Duster when I ran across this Dart and as they say the rest is history

I have been a spectator of drag racing for about 15 years. Always loved the mopars. When I decided to start drag racing I started with a 94 ram 2wd reg. cab short box with a 440 and loved racing the truck but when I found a good deal on a B body I just couldnt resist. I really did want a 67 charger but once I started looking at some already finished ones I decided to buy This one.

My husband has had his '72 Challenger since he was 15. He didn't want to cut it up so he went looking for an A-body to make into a race car. About ten years ago he found the Duster in Virginia, bought it off the original owner, and we went to pick it up. He asked if I wanted to drive it home. BIG MISTAKE. I drove it the whole way home, 7+hours with a slant six, 1 barrel, and drum brakes through the mountains of Pennsylvania and I LOVED it. From then on it was mine.

We built it together, so there is a lot of sentimental value, plus I just love the car.

Because my Dad had a 69 b7 blue charger new in 69 , I was born in 71 and remember growing up riding around in that cool blue car !
I used to help wash it and rotate the tires hold the wrench for dad and the light !
I used to go over to Gram pa and Grandma's house and Grandpa was a Chevy guy of course. When I was 5 he would play match box cars with me and say " My Chevy is going to beat that old junker Charger " and I would say No Way a Chevy could beat the charger !" Then he would say "yea but i got a Chevy Charger!" I would look at my dad and he would shake his head to reassure me that Chevy did not make a charger and I would say" No way Only DODGE Makes A Charger !"I was hooked the Charger got totaled in 76 and I never forgot it . So in 2003 I said to my dad its time i build a 69 charger . He always used to talk about "how great it would be to have the charger today" i said so lets get one 6 years later and alot of time and money spent we both have Chargers mine is a yellow 69 and his is a b5 blue 68 . favorite movies growing up Bullet / favorite TV show Dukes of hazard only watched for the car and later Daisy of course !
Fast and furious movies for the Chargers why else?
Death proof , Vanishing point etc you get the idea ....

thats a beautiful shot of your car Ron...

back in 66 my Dad traded his 63 Grand Pix for a 4dr hdtp 66 Chrysler Newport..was a great looking car and when I got my license in 67 I was driving it...as soon as I rounded the corner I would stop, get out and pull the air cleaner...WAAAAAAAA as that 383 would yelp..

well that wasnt what got me interested..it was the MaxWedge cars too!!always loved a blown HEMI powered 41 Willys...

my last year in High school I had a 64 Dart GT...loved it and raced it..some years later I had a 69 Dodge van with a 318 that I played with...

wasnt until the 63 Dodge MaxWedge that I got re-interested in Mopars..and then the 71 Duster...

the 63 is still with me and I have a feeling it will die with me...along with the 69 Z/28 Camaro...O..and my 65 GTO

If I had a choice ( and endless $ ) I would be racing a 63 Plymouth or 64 Dodge Max car, as that is what I raced years ago - But, my Dad called me up one day in 94 and said he was getting too old to mess with this 79 Chrysler that he had ( mostly in storage for the previous 10 years ) and if I wanted it, I could have it. "Just fly out and drive it home." My folks lived in the state of Washington. I lived in Chicago at the time. Thats a 2500 mile trip - one way. I decided go do it with the thought of turning a $ on it. Got it home ( not without incident - broke down in Evanston, Wy ) and proceeded to clean it up to sell it. When I realized it was a rather unique car ( being a 300, rust free and all original ) I decided to just drive it for a year or so. Well, one year truned in to 17. The engine went from a 360 to a 408. The rest of the drivetrain stayed original ( with some mods ). It's far from an ideal choice for drag racing ( can you say HEAVY ) at 3960 lbs. empty, but it is unique, especially at the track. It does have some advantages, and when I remember what they are, I'll let you know .

I always owned B-bodies or C-bodies. I'd never owned a truck. I thought it would be nice to have an old Dodge pickup for hauling my junk around. I was looking for a mid 60's 1/2 ton and not having any luck. I picked up a copy of the local trade sheet and found a '60 D-100 for sale cheap. Loaded up the wife and kids and went to look. It was pretty rough but for $350 I figured I couldn't go to wrong. The day after I got it home I looked at it a bit closer and thought to myself, "what did I get myself into". About that time a ferd friend of mine stopped by to see my 'latest'. He took one look at it and said it was ugly. I told him I was going to transplant a 440 into it. He then started to laugh at it and me and said it would never hook or get out of it's own way. Well that little outburst from him pissed me off, I especially don't like someone telling me I can't or it won't. He had a high 13 second mustclang he was really proud of and I decided to 'warm up' the 440 a bit. The second time out with the truck at the strip netted a 12.75. He stopped racing for 3-4 years because he didn't want to line up against me. I eventually whittled my time down to a 12.19 after a couple years of screwing with the same basic package. My ferd friend finally jumped back into dragracing and invested 3-4 thousand in the motor on upgrades and NOS, he was then about 1/2 second faster than I. During this period of time I was collecting parts for my Hemi. 4 years ago I finally got it together and in the truck. Guess what, my ferd friend quit dragracing again. Everytime I've raced the truck I get people coming up to get a closer look at it. It's no showpiece but it's something a bit different and most people are rather suprised at it's performance. Dave
