Found a photo of the 65 Dodge Coronet with a 426 street hemi that I was talking about earlier. It was taken in the summer of 64 with Marty Schorr standing beside it. So what ever happened to this 65 Coronet, did it end up being some Chrysler rep's personal car or did it end up being someone's race car. Also from other photo's seen of this 65 Coronet it was a hardtop and not a sedan. And what's with the underside of the hood being blacked out.
That is a hood insulation pad. They built six '65 Coronet 500's for street Hemi development. All were supposed to have been crushed.

Yes that's what I figured it was at first but it looks a little weird, take a closer look at it because it looks like someone used a black marker pen and colored it in, it's to dark and the edges around the hood skelton don't look right. So you say that they built six of these, I doubt that they crushed them, probably yanked the motors or gave them to racers and the cars ended up becoming race cars.

They were street hemi test cars.Only one or two got out so to speak.Lost track of it ages ago. There was a wagon also but I believe it was not factory assembled (but possibly all were "Woodward garage" creations).Wagon was stolen and never recovered.
The Daytona car's engine was damaged by a pit crew foul up during a pit stop.I believe it was in the top 10 when that happened.

Found a Car and Driver article on the car from Mike Volz's collection here at Rocket. It is an article on the race and only has pictures of the big boys (Ferrari's, Ford GT, etc) but they have a little note at the end of the article:
"There was also a legally-homologated Plymouth GT car, a hemi-engined monster with two four-barrel carbs, a NASCAR roll cage, the biggest drum brakes you ever saw and various other goodies, along with Chrysler engineers Scott Harvey (the rally driver) and Peter Hutchinson as drivers.
They laughed when Harvey sat down to drive, but stopped soon afterward when he qualified the noisy beast in 2:12 (the Ford GTs were at 2:01 and 2:03 for the 3.81 mile course). Harvey had the 11th fastest time. They blew it up after about two-and-a-half hours, but while they were around this small, rather informal attempt by some Chrysler people to learn what this roadracing business was all about was impressive. If you've never seen a Plymouth blew off a Ferrari GTO or a Porsche 904 (the GTO eventually finished seventh, the Porches were fifth, eighth and ninth) you've missed a lovely sight."
I own a 65 Plymouth that was a Permatex car and raced at Riverside in 70, 71, and 72, have attached a picture of it.
That is one of the coolest cars ive ever seen.

Good morning - Thought I would take this opportunity to update my progress in tracking down the Daytona Belvedere. The family of Larry Adams did contact me and reported that he passed in 1982 at the age of 55. They could lend little help on this effort. Peter Hutchinson was one of the drivers involved in the effort. Hutchinson would later go on the manage Chrysler's Trans-Am effort in 1970. He too has passed. I saw a reference that his records had been acquired by a Mopar enthusist, but have been unable to track that story further. Does anyone have any idea who may have these records? Take care - Mike Matune
I wonder if those records went to Mike? Gursavski. He passed away about 5 years ago. Check with Tom Quadrini.

The article on the Plymouth Hemi Belvedere that ran in the 1965 Daytona Continental appears in the current edition of Vintage Motorsport magazine. The magazine is available on newsstands, via the internet at www.vintagemotorsport.com or downloaded on iTunes. Thanks to all who helped put this together. - Take care, Mike Matune
