Is there any problem with rebuilding a carb and then letting it sit on the self for a while? I'm itching for something to do while I'm looking around for a new project. I'm thinking of rebuilding my Holley 750 this weekend.

Go ahead, just don't put gas in it and then let it sit. Use the non-stick gaskets to make your future life easier.

You'll be fine. Just wrap it up & plug the bowl vents/fuel inlet/vac nipples to keep any critters out of there. I wish I had your ambition

The last time I attempted to rebuild the carb I bought a kit online. It wasn't made by holley. I called a local hot rod shop and they've got one produced by holley. I'm guessing that the one made by holley would be preferred?

I went and got the kit after school today. I've "rebuilt" this carb (Holley 3310-2) back when I first got my satellite. I used a kit that wasn't made by holley...I'm not sure how good a job I did. I never ran the carb on that car once I had the engine sorted out. I'm going to get started on it tomorrow. Any tips/tricks you guys want to throw out there before I tear it apart? Should I take fine steel wool to all of the metal surfaces? I want to go all out on this and have a very nice carb when its all said and done.

soak your pieces in the soup for several days to where on each of the large pieces the gaskets are softened enough that you can use your bristle brush to get all traces of gasket material off. Sometimes you have to throw a particular piece back in for more soaking.

Steel wool easily shreds & may end up in passages & isn't really stout enough to get those last stubborn gasket pieces off & A bristle brush that looks like a toothbrush but with metal bristles is what you need. At that point in time you'll appreciate the new non stick gaskets that are available now.

Storing freshly rebuilt carbs should be fine for several years as long as you use good quality fuel with fuel stabilizer added. Be sure to drain them completely and air dry them well before storage, wrap them in a clean dry cloth or soft paper and place them in a plastic bag that is not completely sealed to allow for some air circulation.
