how do i get my auto shifter knob off my 69 charger to #1091193

Need to install my console top on 69 charger,can i just remove shifter knob or do i have to remove whole shifter lever?I loosened alen screw on knob but it seems to have spring houlding it on from button.If i took whole shifter off how would i get it hooked back up with top on?Can anyone give me a clue?

Unscrew the center (push down) button. With the allen screw loosened it should pop right out.

there is an allen set screw in the base of the knob( chrome part) loosen the set screw and unthread the assy to remove it

As stated above unscrew the button... But the button is keyed to the knob so you need to loosen the set screw on the knob so both the button & knob can be turned.... Also when reinstalling the button the depth you thread it on is critical, go to far & the shifter won't shift properly......
