440 with complete rebuild - everything new.

I just replaced the fuel lines and installed a new fuel pump. The car drives great until you hit 3k rpm. It bogs down but it doesn't appear fuel related. The rpm doesn't fall and when going to N it idles perfect. You can't get it to perform or do anything past 3k rpm. Feels like fouled plugs.

The fuel lines and pump were replaced due to corrosion in original fuel lines.

Thanks!

Did it run ok before the new pump? Did you replace the fuel filter?

Sure sounds like a fuel pump issue to me. One test is to attempt to accelerate up a steep hill--that will show a weak fuel pump real quick

Does it do it when you rev it in N?

I replaced the fuel pump, filter and lines after the car died out on me and I had to floor the car to get it home, not exceeding 20 mph. The lines were badly rusted and clogged the fuel filter. The pump was replaced after the lines and filter because I was barely getting any fuel to the carb. Before it did this the car ran great at all rpms.

Thanks!

What about the pickup/sending unit, and sock filter in the tank?
You may want to monitor fuel pressure while under load.

what carb, what set-up, where is your timing? vac advance hooked up? If so unhook and a try running it. Lots of things to consider here. I'll go on a limb and say it's your timing.

I had similar issues and the carb was all plugged up with crap that got past the filter. Have you taken a look at the carb yet.

Ok---great info. What pump did you put on it? And the post above about possible crap in the carb might well be the problem.

I also noticed that after everything was changed the car was hard to start and blew excess exhaust. This was after I let it idle 20 mins after the repairs. Idle is crisp and smooth.

Thanks!

He carb is an Eddy 750 on dual plane.

The carb sounds like the culprit. I'll pull it and clean it real good. The night before it crapped I got on it on the way home from a car show. Tons of junk could be stuck in it.

I'll double-check the timing too.

Thanks for the help guys!

Missed that. Yes check the carb.
When I bought my '69 Coronet Convertible the tank/fuel lines were rusted, and there was not a filter in the system so the carb was full of rust.

Sounds like plugged exhaust. Kind of like what a bad Cat will do.

Still sounds like a fuel supply problem. Make sure to blow out the lines and replace pickup, filter. Clean the carb out really good. Make sure all jets are clear. Check your timing advance as well.

haven't heard an answer to this yet...if the fuel lines were that bad, and its the original sending unit/ fuel tank, then you'd have all that crap in your new fuel lines as well....

Is the car just nosing down or is it popping thru the carb or exhaust?

My one car was nosing over under load forgot the rpm a few years back only had standard red holley electric pump on it, jumped up to the holley black pump and that solved my issue.

You can install a temporary fuel pressure gauge by the cowl and watch as you go through the gears to see if the pressure is hanging in there.

The fuel tank and sending unit are probably 6 or 7 years old so I've ruled those out. It has been running great until just recently discovering the clogged filter and rusty lines. Also, the fuel filter was installed AFTER the pump until I discovered the mistake 3 months ago.

I removed the carb last night and cleaned it real good with carb cleaner and compresses air. I'll drive it at lunch today and see how she does.

Thanks

did you check the rubber hose between the sending unit and hard line to the front? I had one that went bad tiny cracks and pin holes. car would run and drive but fell Falt under WOT...it will start to suck air and there it goes.

I did and the hose looks fairly new. I will check all connections again. Never thought of that - thanks!
