I was at MMW and got tired of messing around with a torn breather grommet, so I went over to the midway and asked Mancini if they had one. They did but, get this....they frickin' wanted me to pay for it! If you had come to my pit and I'd had an end for a cable, I'd have given it to you and refused $1 if you'd offered it but, I think it's pretty uncool to about a vendor charging you for a part you needed. You should have been tickled to death you found one.

I don't see the reason to complain! He is in the "Parts" business. Personally I like having parts guys at the races, It has bailed me out a few times and yes I expect to pay for a part from a vendor.

I kinda think a vendor has to pay to be there, and its more than fair to expect to pay for something from one of them, Ben or anybody else.
you could have said i will just pass, dont hold it against a guy trying to pay his bills...just my thought...

I wasn't going to reply to this thread, needed time to obsorb how I would have reacted, I will say this, I've been in situations like this & other racers (not vendors) have come through, It was a god sent, especially if your stranded at the track, I had a couple racers over the years ask me "whats it worth" when they had what i needed, I said don't know as long as it ain't a killing "i'm desprit", they named there price & normally it was reasonable, I paid them & was very grateful i found what i needed , & with it only being 5 bucks i wouldn't be complaining, Just think what it would have cost you in just your time & fuel to go to the closest parts house , I'd say you'd be more pist you couldn't be racing.

A couple of you nailed it.
You needed something. Was obviously pretty desperate. Pay the $5 and be quite.
Ben, the guy was a customer. If you want to keep a good relationships with them. Either or. Don't spend time looking for something to help them as they are going to bad mouth you on the net. Or be a gentleman help em out spend time looking and find what they need and give to them with the statement. "catchup with you later"
Business is hard these days. I have had some people sqerm around paying for extra parts. They knew it I knew it. I let it go. But, Bridge Burned.
Ben was it worth all this for the $5? You could have easily made this up in the future if this was a customer.

Slamming a guy's character in a public forum over 5 bucks... you've got to be kidding... Get a grip man.

First off I had an absolute blast at MMW! It was a long ride and well worth it. Josh did an amazing job, as did everyone involved. The track prep was amazing and Scott the announcer kicked tail. Now for Ben at Promax. Good 'ol Ben at ProMax. I was in a major jamb Saturday morning. Smoked my starter. Bought it from Mancini. Broke my battery cable end taking the old one out. Run to the swap side. Hit up Ben. Tell him my jamb. Goes into his tool box and digs out a nasty old copper end and says, "What's it worth to you"? I say "What?". He says, "Well how much is it worth?". I say "How much do you need?". Five dollars later I got the end. A 50 cent end may I add. Yes I needed it to fix my car, and yes 5 bucks is only 5 bucks, but WHAT THE %&^%*^%?!?!?!?!?!? In my opinion, Ben's no racer at all. He just wants money. Any racer would have offered it up for free and may have accepted the $5 I would have offered up. A real man would have declined the $5 and wished good luck. I've spent alot of money with Ben over the years and will never give him another dime. Even if it means I don't have a part to fix my car!! Rant over.
First off, Ben wasn't there as a racer. He was there as a vendor. Vendors have to pay a fair amount just to set up, and they then have to sell a fair amount just to cover the setup, gas and other expenses. Then, as a salesman and businessman, he has to sell even more product to put food on the table and pay the mortgage. That's how he makes a living. Secondly, a battery cable-sized lug made of copper costs more than 50 cents. You priced copper lately? Now, in the interest of good will, is it a good idea to throw someone a bone once in a while as a good gesture? Sure, and maybe in hindsight he might wish he had done just that, but it's totally unfair for you to A) expect it for free, and then B) trash him on a public forum for trying to run a business. I don't get it. As for my experience, Ben has always been fair with me and a gentleman on top of that. [Climbs off soapbox.]

5.00 ? 99.99987325 % of the people I know would give this away if it hadn't been thrown out long before hand. Maybe I'm reading this wrong ? Even at scrap value , .50 would be pushing it. And a past customer as well ? I dunno man. But then , I enjoy helping others when I can. There is a pay back that doesn't come in dollars , and is worth a lot more at the end of the day.
