Hi Guys,
How were these markings applied at the factory? Thanks!
Ray

You need to be more specific with the model, year, and motor of the car you have.

Did you carefully steam clean and scrub you existing suspension to find any of the true factory marks you car came with?

Look at this thread for examples: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...=0&fpart=34

using an ordinary small paint brush for models or crafts from the hobby shop, a Michael's, or even say Walmart would not be unacceptable - so it's what I've chosen to use to duplicate these lower control arm orange paint dabs on ends of both torsion bar cranks later this weekend as soon as the new gold paint is ready for a top coat of 'orange'.

it looks like a shop rag slightly wet with orange will also be successful at duplicating these particular marks. mostly, I'm going to envision that one quick swipe at assembley line speed and do it then settle for my efforts. anybody can paint, but not everybody is a painter! raystoy, best of luck

Dab with a foam brush, well soaked, achieves the best results for me.

I've found the foam brush or short bristled brush gives acceptable results to original. Thank You!

I was told by an Los Angeles assembly line worker that the paint was applied by a applicator. The applicator was basically a wooden stick with a cotton fabric end on it. Makes senses.

Good info.

And the colors are just leftover stuff from the paint room right?

This is what many people believe.

One of the stories is that if the inspection mark was applied at the factory and not by the vendor that was assembling the part.........the factory inspection make could only be a color that was used that model year and also at that plant. For example there was a "lime light" paint dab on my RT front brake caliber. That was a color that was used in Hamtramck in 1970......you would not see a lime light inspection mark in 1968.....that color was not avaliable.

THIS IS ONLY A THOUGHT AND IS NOT GOSPEL.

That was my thinking, but I have seen too many examples that refute that theory.

The black A12 Superbee that I finished this spring had several lime green paint marks on the front end components. And this was a positively original car that had never been disassembled until I took it apart. The only thing I could possibly attribut this to is the fact that the A12's are known to have been built well into the 69 model year and maybe some of this hi impact paint was available in anticipation of the 70 model year.

Here is a pic of the original ball joint-clearly showing the lime green mark.

I don't know about the suspension but in the late 70's I ran the leadoff machine for the caseline. We used a small refillable plastic bottle with a top that had about a 1" fiber wick to mark which head on the machine the case came off of. The color we used depended on the shift. I was on afternoons and we used green. the other two colors were black and blue. Also it wasn't paint we used it was ink that came in gallon jugs. Steve

This lime light paint dab found on my '70 E Body's center link from Hamtramk. Next pic is lime light on wheel stud and brake drum. Also found some lime green on a K frame bolt head.
