Mr.P did your crank grinder dial off the mains or did he go off the seal and the gear? Reason that I'm asking is that I sent 3 cranks back last year that had a 0.020" runout on the gear. (340 mains)
Randy
I'm not sure how he did it... I'll call him to make sure he checks the other stuff(I'm sure he will)

if the machine has chucks, you go off the seal area, not the mains. on certain cranks we change over to centers. can't get any more true to the centerline than that. i know scat had some issues awhile back. i think it might have been Ryan J that said he wasn't going to use them anymore. i'm sure he'll correct me if i'm wrong. we've literally used and sold pallets of K-1 cranks and rods and out of all those i've only ever had one with an issue that was actually pretty minor. no matter, they propmtly replaced it and ate the shipping both ways, as they should. don't even want to get started on the problems with the eagle cranks throughout the years. (DISCLAIMER)we sell all three of those brands, so there is no bias in my reply.
I should have put it in my lathe to check it but I would have ended up taking it the crank place

ALL Chinese cranks I use get drop shipped right to the crank grinder-then to my shop. I'd say that it's pretty common to have issues. 80% need some sort of rework. Part of the deal.

All Chinese cranks should get drop kicked back to china,.... Just my opinion
Yeah I got this crank a FEW years back... I didnt know who made the cranks for MP... at one time Callies made them for MP
I was told that the MP 4.15 for BB is Scat. Is Scat chinese? Don

All but the billet Scat cranks are From China, The machine work is from California last I remember,
That's right. They are machined here.

Yeah, then how many of the cheap assses are going to run $2,500. Callies or Crower cranks in their motors? Answer? just about nobody!
Its unfortunate, but that is how it goes.....

HPMike, could you explain that statement, ive a callis in my 452 small block stroker, it works no better or no worse then the china crank in a stronger motor, and was a grand more...If my needs called for a billet crank id have one but at a certain power level many are happy with the china cranks that may need a lil work. Other then getting the china steel cranks in spec, we dont see many posts of them failed or a holed block so again for certain..... What I dont get is we dog the china cranks but the chebbie and ford folks seem to have no issues with the eagle kits, scat parts and make big power on them, are us mopar people just picky or what.... Ive never been told my steel china crank was my wink link in some builds, its always the "stock block" issue. Quote:

Simple
Everyone wants to play Mr Patriot and shitt all over the Chinese parts and thats fine. I think it sucks, too. But at the same time, people are blowing up 8.75 rears because they dont want to spend a few extra dollars on a Dana.
My only point is that I wont even take one of these cranks out of the box without first sending it to my crank guy. It's fine. The few extra $$ added on to the price is more than worth it to the customer to get it as good as it can be. Some(few) are perfect, and that is great. And let's face it, the average bread and butter 600 horse stroker build doesn't need a premium crank. Unfortunately we don't have an option of a US made and machined entry level product.
So Quick77, it seems like we are on the same page, no? Sorry to the OP for his trouble. It's never fun when it turns out that way. MB

For me in my build I wanted some extra cubes for torque so I went with this 4" MP crank... being I was a Chrysler employee I got a super buy on it... once its corrected I'm sure it will be fine for my SB... I'm only going to make about 550 hp... but I did spent the savings getting it fixed

well he called me today to say the front is bent between #1 and #3 mains so I asked if he could straighten it but he prefered to cut itQuote:
I'm a little confused. How will cutting it straighten it? All I'm seeing happening is you will have a bent crank that will turn freely in your engine
Kevin
Basically yes, it'll be bent by .002 but the mains will be on centerline.... I can live with it out by .002 at the counter weight

Mr P is the crank you have one of the scat 9000 series cast versions? I just saw mancini has them for 300 bucks but probably not worth it if you need to have a bunch of work done to it.
Might have been but I have to much into this one now... I dont know what series it is.. its a forged Scat/MP 4" crank

When it absolutely, positively, has to be destroyed overnight you can always call UPS if the Marines are busy.
Part of my plan is to try to buy a crank from closer to home, so it has less transfers from truck to truck and /or less handling.
Yeah, it's got a smallblock.
