Over the weekend, I found and bought a vintage Craftsman 150 drill press on craigslist. The best I can figure out, it was built around 1965 or 1966. Came with a Craftsman drill press vise of the same era. Aside from the plastic knobs, there's not another plastic part on this thing. Still has the original 1/2 HP motor, with an info plate on the motor that literally says "Manufactured In The United States Of America". How cool and rare is that anymore! The 3 main parts are made of cast iron, so it is quite heavy. I shined up the chrome on the feed handle, and cleaned up the chuck. I'm already putting it to use, but after the Jeep is done and on the road, I plan to do a full restoration on it.

Picked up an MSD Digital 6AL, and after failing to find a suitable spot to mount it in the engine compartment, I decided to mount it totally out of sight, inside my center console. The aluminum panel will be Monstalined to match the console side panel. To prevent my passenger's legs from injury, the protruding studs will be shortened slightly, and held in place with dome nuts.

I finally got around to figuring out how to plumb the fuel pressure regulator. Looks a bit crazy, but it will work until I think of a sleeker way to route the hoses. I also made a new mounting bracket for my MSD coil, so it stands vertical.

The sexy curved pipe I made on the passenger side header made installing the fender very difficult, and scratched up the header coating on some of the pipes, and probably would have made scratches in the paint, if the fender were painted. So, I re-configured two of the header pipes to eliminate the problem.

Paint was finally flyin' at Jeeper Dave's!! The first coat had some orange peel in it, so I added some more reducer and turned up the pressure a few psi, and that helped a lot on the second coat. All was going well, until a teeny-weenie black bug flew into the second coat that I had just applied to the grille. I couldn't find a pair of tweezers in my messy garage, so I made the dumb mistake of trying to bury him with a small shot of extra paint, but in the process, I created a drip on one of the vertical spoke of the grille, just below the bug. Son of a...!!!!!

IS THIS RED ENOUGH?

Windshield frame.

Thanks, guys. I'll get my spray on with the front fenders next weekend. Weekend after that, the hood.

Well in that case....here's some more shiny chit for ya, Rick!

I've finally got the adjustments on this Devilbiss Plus gun dialed in. Also, adding a little extra reducer is really helping to let the paint flow out. I still have a little bit of light orange peel in some areas, but that is just the amateur painter in me causing that. I shot three wet coats, so there's enough paint to wet sand and buff out the less than perfect areas.

Thanks, Rick!

Just for kicks, here's a pic of what these same fenders looked like when I bought them 2 years ago. Quite a difference, I must say! Look at that rust!!

My hood was the next thing in line to get painted this weekend, but during the final sanding, I found some small areas that needed some attention. So, in an effort to prevent a total loss of the weekend, I changed gears and painted some small parts instead. By hook or by crook, the hood WILL get painted next weekend. My goal is to finish all of the painting before Memorial Day weekend.
