Hey guys,Im active duty Army. Been deployed way too much over the past 10 years so the car had to wait. Well, Im finally putting my small block back together for my 70 Challenger. Just wondering which headers are gonna be the best fit for it.

Im figuring TTI but at $600 a set, I figured I'd ask ya'll if there are any other good options.

Thanks

Laine.

This comes up at least once or twice a week. If you can afford them TTI's are the way to go, they fit.

I've used TTI's in both my 'Cuda and in my previous Duster. Actually I used the same passenger side header in both cars. I had to buy a new driver's side header for the 'Cuda since the driver's side is different for "A" bodies. They fit especially well in the 'Cuda. Drivers side wouldn't go in on my Duster with power steering. Maybe if I would have had a lift to get the car high enough it would have gone in. It was easier to convert to manual steering. The 'Cuda has power steering and I have room to spare.

I've just got the cheapo Summit headers, I'd heard too many horror storys of guys melting their nice new $600 headers on initial firing of a new engine. I'll likely change to TTI this winter.

Oh, and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

How well do they fit? Any clearance issues? How about how low do they hang under the car?

I assume you have a LA motor in there with a 727 right?

Summit has the coated ones on sale right now and I seriously thought about getting a set I just dont want them to hang way low under the car.

Yep, it's a 360 but with a 904 and column shift. No clearance issues for me. The tubes that go under the drag link are a bit low but at the stock ride height, it hasn't been an issue at all. Hasn't scraped the ground once.

The only problem I've had is the header will occasional contact bottom of the pitman arm when the wheel is turned all the way left. This only happens during idle because the motor rocks a bit (those darn HP camshafts ).

Only other concern is the coating. I got the cheapest ones, no coating, so after awhile, they're looking a bit weathered. If you're going with the coated ones, won't be an issue.

Gool luck!

You've got to go TTI, Dougs or Hooker super comp to go above the steering linkages.

I chenged to TTI a few years ago and love them. Just dont spray grease lightning or any cleaner nearby. My $700 headers are all stained up now.

The cheapos go below the steering. 1st issue is they get mashed. My 2nd was that the pitman arm would hook the top of a tube on tight turns (when I floored it to sling the back end around, haha) it would catch and lock the steering in the turned position and you'd have to gorrilla it back before mashing into something.....

Scary.

Well, it looks like TTI is going to get my $. If all goes well, maybe I can put on an entire TTI exaust system. Anyone installed an entire system from them on an E body? From what I understand they fit like a glove.

Yes I have installed 2 set's on my challengers. Read the instuctions first and follow them.
On the 2 I installed there are small numbers on each pipe end, be sure to line them up, it will go together differently if you not careful and then it won't fit right. You won't be sorry if you go TTI.

It would be soooooooo great if small block headers were offered in the cheap Hedman/Blackjack non coated tubing but with the "Over the link" tube design. I know the Dougs and TTIs will last near a lifetime but it would be a nice additional lower $$ option to mopar smallblock folks.

Keep old mopars alive.

Well, its a done deal. My brand new TTI ceramic coated. polished, thermal coated headers should be here on Friday. $731 including shipping and a 10% military discount (THANKS TTI!).

Expensive and REALLY put a dent into the very small budget I have to get this thing back on the road. However, i think it was a wise investment. I guess it will just take a bit longer to finish it all up now.
