Having issues with all of the lights on my 69 Dart flickering. The voltage regulator seems to check out as the battery will maintain a charge at approximately 13.6v with the lights on and about 14v with them off. Should I be looking for a faulty curcuit breaker and if so where? Any help would be appreciated.

Thx

Kim

highly likely that converting to an electronic v reg will take care of it. Parts houses have a wells 706 iirc & Mrrandy on here has a black OE appearing electromechanical one converted to electronic for $29 to your door

I've got one on order and I will replace the original points style reg. Do you know if the light switch has a circuit breaker in it? I've read somwheres where breakers can cycle and cause the lights to flicker.

Thx

yes the light sw has a breaker & when it cycles it shuts the headlites on/off. W a problematic reg even w the headlights off it'll flicker whatever lights that are still left on (if any)

It appears that I may still have the original switch #2820792. I'll be replacing it as well.
Thanks for the help.

on my 68 Dart my headlight switch had burnt the term out of the bakalight plastic and was flickering on and off.

I also found a wire hanging on by a couple strands of wire at the dimmer switch which would cause it all to heat up and flicker on and off.

the new style solid state elect regulator swap was the best thing I did to my 68 Dart,it fixed all the low idle charging, dimming with the lights.

good luck

are they truly flickering on and off or just dimming on and off?? this might just be a simple grounding issue

I replaced the original switch with a new one tonight. There was no difference in the behaviour of the lights however, it is nice knowing that I have a new switch as the other was a litter worse for wear.
The lights are dimming and flickering when the rpms drop to idle. The intensity of the lights increase as the speed of the alternator increases. The volt meter reads a continuous 13.6v - 13.8v I could run a test I suppose and let it run a little longer to see if it drops off below 12v.
I trust the upgraded electronic reg when it arrives will help to maintain the current.

Thx

most likly with a low idle and the points style reg,it is flickering as the points kick in and out.

mine had that before the solid state elect reg up-grade,it stoped the low idle discharge on the gauge and no more flicker in the lights.
