I got a few PMs the last time I posted this, and alot of opinions. My external fuel pump was mounted along side the gas tank, however it was mounted to the trunk floor on the bottom of course and started making noise about 2 years ago and finally got loud enough for me to change it. Some of you say it needs to be mounted lower and some say, it makes little differance, so I had some brackets made to lower it to about even with the bottom of the gas, but it is kinda hangig out where it could get hit by something and thats my concern. I would rather replace a pump every couple years and have it tucked up high then take a chance something will hit it and then I could have an issue? Any opinions?

if it's a decent pump and your mostly street driving you should be fine. i have mine mounted in the truck (it's a Carter) and never had an issue. i am gonna move it though just to quiet it!

I mounted mine to the back seat bracket a little above the gas tank.I insulated the back seat under and behind it.The pump is not in the trunk.I had a holley red way to loud.I put a edlebrock #1791,you can hardly hear it.Once the car is running I don't hear it at all.I'm very happy with this pump.I do have flomasters super 40's so they are little loud.good luck.

Talk to Weldon Pumps. Just put one of their in line A600-A on my car...self priming and sooo quiet. You can mount it horizontal, vertical, anyway you want.

I hear ya...not cheap. Until I went to EFI, I ran the Mallory 140 pump. Also very quiet.

unless the pump is designed to be a puller, it will live longer being gravity fed plane and simple.

I put the efi pump on my fury in the rear torque box area, OEM fuel line ran right through there and was a nice cubby to put it

I pulled my 2 EFI pumps from a Mercedes S500, they were mounted in a rubber suspended box behind the rear axle, like a fuel pump scrodum....and I doubt you can hear those running. If you run Holley style loud pumps, mount them from those rubber insulators and use short rubber sections of fuel line to and from to keep their vibrations from your chassis, and keep them at or lower than the fuel level line.

I ran a frame rail mounted pump for several years. Inside the rail just in front of the kick-up. It was an EFI pump which is even more sensitive to cavitation. The location is low enough but exhaust clearance was tight.

The best location of all is inside the tank. Good fuel supply, well cooled, quiet and no packaging or line routing problems. Since the fuel is pressurized from the start, line sizes don't need to be as large. That's what I'm running now. I bit the bullet for a custom Rick's Hot rod Shop tank and love it. I ditched most of the 8 AN I was running and use a factory style 3/8" steel line. I believe this is good to at least 700 HP with the pump pushing.

Behind the diff to the floor of the next to the fuel tank. Priming the pump might be the only hard activity on the pump and that happens about once, after that it's lubricated for life effectively. Even if lines drain back there will be enough fuel to prime itself immediately without harm.

On my 64 Dodge, I have the pump and filter attached to the passenger frame rail below the trunk. It hangs a couple of inches lower than the frame. I have seen lots of people with their pump/filter hanging this low with no issues. And I get good gravity feed to my pump.
