Sean, it shouldnt need a lube... it has 15% gas in it for lube
What say you 440Jim...how do your valvejobs hold-up? Or are you top-end lubing?
I have never used top lube in E85. My heads haven't been touched (except spring checks) since changing to E85.
Remember, flex fuel vehicles run 100,000-200,000 miles on the stuff.

Our fuel in Minnesota is E-70 a good portion of the year. Thankfuly it's usualy the race off season. It's to keep the pump gas guys starting in the really cold weather. The fuel is blended back to E-85 for the summer months. Unless you know what you have you should have a test kit. Most of us can find a little E-98 to blend in if we need to. I'm told there is little or no diference down to E-80 but have not dyno or track tested it to E-85 side by side.
I buy all my E-85 at the pump but I buy it in the summer time and fill my barrels... I test a sample first and its always been between 85-86... yes it does drop to E-70 in the fall to the spring but I dont buy it then
First, welcome back Bumps! I know SteelDust was talking pure alcohol but, I wonder if a 'top-end' lube is a good idea when running E-85?
Sean, it shouldnt need a lube... it has 15% gas in it for lube
I run Alcohol in my bird for years and i had top lube in it i had the motor apart a bunch the heads was OK no problems but the cylinders you could see some spots but i did not have to bore it just hone it i run in my DUSTER lube because i run straight Alcohol for the cylinders only. But BRAD a friend he runs straight Alcohol with NO lube and he runs in the 4s in a 1/8 of mile but when he gos home he pulls the plugs and puts WD-40 in the cylinders and spins the motor over and i do this to with my 572 motor now. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beer.gif)

True, but at least in the case of the Ford vehicles, they also change the valve material to work with the Ethanol on the flexfuel applications only.

Anybody race E85 with Edelbrock carbs? Can't run Holleys as it's a N/SS car. Also motor is 15-1. What do you think? Doug
a friend does, this car was converted last weekend driven alitle on the street during the week and was raced this weekend with some ok results but it will take more tuning to get the full benefits for sure. and its "only" a 13:1 motor dont know how E85 will handle 15:1.
we have no idea about how the rubber for the accpump will handle it that is our biggest concern. jetting wasnt that hard even if the results arent perfect or close to it yet, getting the idlesircuit rich enough was worst he ended up taking out the mixturescrews all toghter and just plugging the holes. tunnelramed streetsmallblock with two 500cfm edelbrocks.

I run 14.1:1 and its fine... its all about the cam selection when running high compression... you need a wider LSA to reduce some cyl pressure... I never used a Ebrock with E-85 ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)
