Is the grille and headlight surrounds black or light argent?

The '70 RT/SE I once owned had an argent grille.

Edit: Mine was a 383 car.

The RT/SE I owned was BLACK . Had it for 11 years, was pretty original. In fact, I thought all Challengers came like this, so when I started seeing them without it , I thought it looked out of place.
Still don't like them to this day.
Not sure if it is argent colored though, I have seen them with the "aluminum/bright" finish.

I'll see if I can find some pics.

Hey Bob,

Is your car an RT/SE?

I have found two original RT/SE cars that have argent grills and the grille that came off the car I am restoring now was argent not black.

This car was in an accident back in '76 as it got hit in the drivers side fender so I am not 100% postive that it wasn't replaced then.

I'm assuming you guys are talking about the grille surround and not the actual eggcrate grille.

I'd also say black on an R/T or R/T SE would be considered the norm.

Argent on Challenger and SE.

A friend of mine has an RT/SE , And I believe it's a black grille. but I wouldn't bet my life on it. as I've not seen it in a couple years .

Yes, talking about the grille surround not the eggcrate.

Also had someone tell me the CA built RT/SE cars were argent not black but I have not been able to confirm that information.

I think I am going to paint it black regardless as that looks better in my opinion.

Just thinking, were these RT/SE Challengers 383 or 440 cars ? Early or late build date ? If 383 cars I could see bigger chance of having argent grille maybe as they could be RT/SE or just SE coming down the line ?

try this link (if I can get it to post)
http://storm.oldcarmanualproject.com/dodgechallenger1970.htm
1970 Challenger brochure.
Has front and back of 2 RT/SE cars. Appears to be a black grill and either black or very dark argent tail panel around the tail lights. There is a base Challenger grill that is obviously argent and then there are the 2 RT grills that appear to be black in the brochures.

Yeah, that's what m RT/SE grill looked like .
BTW I think the rear tail panel treatment was called "astro tone" , if I remember correctly.

I had a lime 440 70 R/T in high school (1979-81) that had an argent grill in it. A friends orange 340 70 R/T had a black one. We always wondered whos was correct. Both original paint cars with no apparent from repairs.

I thought that the 340 was not offered in R/T only a66? Which I thought it was decided per other posts that the argent grille was the "standard". Not pickin...just curious.
