If anyone lives near Boonesville Mississippi, I could use your help. Iam looking at a viper tube chassis car in boonesville. The owner is not sure on if the car is mild steel or chrome moly. Iam trying to track down the chassis builder, but no luck at this time. What i need if possible is could anyone close, with the ability to check type of metal would mind testing the chassis. The guy selling the car say's he dont mind if i have it tested. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks Brian W.

I tig weld all metals not just moly. Was hoping someone might be able to test hardness. Thanks though.

You should be able to tell by the thickness. My metalurgist(sp) nephew says you can't tell them apart without a very expensive machine unless you go by thge thickness. His words not mine. I was telling him about the first time I was having my car certed and the inspector found 2 moly tubes in it. My nephew said the guy couldn't tell unless he was strictly going my thickness.

Did he say if the chassis was painted or not?

My cuda is a molly tube chasis car. I was just looking at some pics and I can see the numbers still on some of the tubes showing what it is. Maybe he could do the same for you. I blew up my pics and could see the numbers very clear, but I couldn't save the view for a reference. I'm 130 miles away from that town 1 way. So it would be an all day adventure for me. Notice the writing on the tubes.

There either needs to be a sonic tester or a hardness tester to tell. Preferably a hardness tester. Yes the chassis is painted but He didn't mind the paint being removed in small areas to be tested. I have tracked the chassis back to oregon will see where that leads me thanks. Aleyerpal2 I if i can find more information I will contact you about if maybe i can get you to check it out. Thanks Brian W.
