Just a guess, but I think 0.5 to 0.6cc reduction for every 0.010" cut? The open part of the chamber is about 1/2 the diameter of the chamber? Not sure how thick the heads are to know how much could be milled off them?

Thanks gang! I am helping on a 400 stock stroke that needs more CR so I was planning on shooting for that 65cc # and just cutting the intake to fit--would have been good to go with domes but bottom was already on the table

60929 head. Now 72cc from 84cc. Believe it was .060 cut.

I had the original Edelbrock heads (when they first came out) on a 440. I can't remember if those original sets were a 88 or 84cc chamber. But... I do remember that I had them milled .038" which became a 77cc chamber.

I was way off. I went back and looked at a picture of the RPM heads, and the quench pad area is alot smaller than I thought (I was thinking chamber was more like the victor heads.)
From photos it looks like the quench area is only about 15% of the chamber, so if you had the estimated bore size (4.4"?) minus the 15% (3.74" equivlent bore?) then a 0.010" cut would be 1.8cc, and each cut would increase the quench area resulting in slightly less cc's (maybe 0.1cc) removed per cut? With these numbers it would take a cut of about 0.110" to take the 84cc heads to about 65cc?

Was that the 88cc open chamber heads, or the 84cc closed chamber heads? I'm just trying to make sense of the numbers. If you started with the closed chamber 84cc heads, the closed part of the chamber (quench area) would have to only be about 7% of the chamber area? The numbers do come pretty close if you started with the 88cc open chamber heads?

I'll take your word for it then since you have done that, and I don't have RPM heads to actually go measure how wide the chambers are.
