I am in the process of buying a 1978 little red express. Where can I decode the Vin. Also where on the engine, trans and rear end would I find the Vin.

trucks didnt have the vin on the engine. dont know for sure but dont think trans or diff either

lrx has the vin on the door, the cowl, and the frame on the passengers side, ahead of the rear axle. the motor isnt stamped to the truck, so the "numbers matching" is just talk, for this truck. no vin on the trans or rear either.

the vin will be D13BS8Jxxxxxx thats what you want to see. try the dodge connection website, for lrx guys and parts.

btw, there is a truck section here, to ask this kinda stuff at...

In other words if it has a vin it is not a Lil Red motor. You can check the casting date on the block & see if it fall in line ahead of the build date.
