Ok, so I feel kinda stupid asking this but what is everyone running for Power Steering fluid?
As part of my engine build I replaced the leaking PS pump and now am getting ready to refill the system. In the past 30 years or so I’ve used many different brands of cheapo PS fluid and least a few different brands/types of ATF, and even just 20wt oil without any memorable issues
I have a firm feel box and a Saginaw pump. I have a few extra bottles of Mopar ATF+4 and was thinking of using that, but I also read on here that the FSM says not to use ATF. Now, a lot has also changed in the 40 years since that manual was written.
So what do you think?

A lot has changed but the pumps are the same!Put ATF in a new clesn pump and run it for a year, you'll see how dirty it can get.

I'm with Kilroy above, so If I'm understanding your comment correctly, the fluid getting dirty is a good thing?
So run it a year or two and flush? I have about 4 quarts of Mopar ATF+4 sitting on the shelf, I'm thinking that is about as good as anything I saw in the stores I looked at yesterday

If you run two "new" pumps, one with ATF and the other with power steerng fluid, after about a year, you will be able to run your finger inside the reservior neck and the pump with ATF will have black residue, the pump with power steering fluid will be clean.I know from experience. Also, look at the maintainance manual for any mediem duty truck,it says "do not" use ATF in the power steering system.I "assume" there is a reason the mfg says use power steering fluid only.If ATF were acceptable, would they not tell you?
