I was wondering if a Sanden compressor would fit a small block with a pre-78 intake manifold. I'm looking at getting the brackets off of an 80s m-body and doing the swap on my 78 Fury. The problem is, Im running a dual plane Magnum M1 and it uses the older large thermostat housing. I don't want to change the manifold. Although the Sanden compressors are pretty ugly, id like to use one simply because they're probably quite a bit more efficient than the old RV2.

Just spoke to a guy at ClassicAutoAir the other day and asked the same question regarding my particular intake (a weiand Stealth on my 360). He told me that the newer Sanden's have mounting hardware that mount the compressor on or around the water pump and in no way touch the intake. Hope this helps.

They have smaller sandens. I used one while swapping a 440 to a modern ac system. I think they are considered shorty's. Bouchillion sells them for over 200, but ebay sellers, where I got one was around 100.

looking at the 2 stock intakes side by side, they moved the t-stat mounting hole and bolt spaceing over just a tad to fit the sanden comp and brackets.

the t-stat houseing got small along with the t-stat and hole for it

seems the edelbrock 318/360 performer has both bolt patterns and the small hole for t-stat..maybe moved a hair but IIRC would work with either a/c comp..it had the 2 diff bolt bosses used by the 2 diff a/c comp

may have to mock it up to see on your intake..i know it wont on my edelbrock LD4B/LD340 intakes

I am thinking it wont on the M-1 either

I think the old v-twin a/c comp was a better set up,IMHO

here's mine on a 340 with Victor340 manifold. It really don't mount on the manifold. I have used 3 different manifolds with this AC, any manifold will work with this setup I got from Bouchillon Performance.
There is a rear mounting bracket that bolts to bosses on some manifold that I have used.
But like this manifold there are no bosses. I simply used a small stainless peice I had laying around and bolted to the spring return bracket. I have many miles on in this configuration includding 42+ miles on the salt in bonneville at over 100 miles per hour.
It ain't pretty but works.

those are not stock M-body a/c bracket either correct?

bouchillon aftermarket adapt o kit brackets are made to work with intakes that stock brackets do not fit correct?
