Seems like I read a post a few months back about a home depot rattle can paint that will mimic the look and feel of black organosol paint. I found a rusteum that mimics the texture of the grey organosol and goes on EXTREMELY NICE, albeit the color is somewhere between the brightness of the light ('70) and dark ("71) rallye wheel center color.

Anyone know of a black alternative? I'll spray my go wing orange before I pay the PPG $$$.

I used a rustoleum satin black on my yellow truck, looks good to me matches the black stick on stripe from ChallengerGary

the SEM trim black is another good match and finish(I think right name?)

the flat hotrod black would work maybe

heres the black letters on the gate in satin black

I have used a black textured spray paint made by krylon that I think gives a real nice finish. I used it on my valve covers, air cleaner and a few other odds and ends.

smooth to the touch and when washing the rag does not stick and drag

I tried flat black before and it was ruff texture and you could not wipe a rag across it,it also would stain very ez

so far the satin is doing ok on mine, cleans up with a wash/dry

here is the whole truck,2 stage yellow with 5 coats of clear all the black is gloss rustoleum and the hood cowl/letters are satin black, stripe is a stick on from Challengergary which matches the satin very close

This would be my choice, goes on really nice and has that look. But no texture to speak of.

Looks great, like the color combo.

Nice.. I may apply this to the Daytona. Now its taillamp panel is a wee bit too glossy for me. Inlew of full blown Organosol now, this would be a nice substitute.

thanks, not bad for the first time back yard in the dirt paint job,IMHO

I should also say the satin and gloss do not have the clear coat on them either.

I am going to spray the stepside hood over again(flat Black on it) and use the SEM trim black

i know result vary but if its better than the satin i will change the 440 trucks hood and cowl, but have to save the art work on the hood scoop

cheap simple and easy is spray some rather heavy coats with your paint of choice to get color. then once it tacks up spray some dry coats from a longer distance to get texture.

Trial and error is the only way to get YOUR desired results.

I had the local paint store mix me some black and add flatening agent until we liked the look. I sprayed it staight, no thinner and it gave a nice satin texture.

Awesome suggestions guys. I am going to see if I can get ahold of the SEM locally and check out the other options here. The black is for my Go Wing. Do I do the pedestals with it too? FPAP has their ped's powder coated. I am very busy on the Bee's body. Ordered a top from Dante, stripes from Phoenix Graphics, tail panel Bee emblem, scoop 383 emblems from AMD, new set of door locks, and just picked up a buffer from HF so that I can get through the stainless polishing before the car is ready for glass. Which speaking of glass, anyone know what buffing compound and drill mounted pad removes whisker/felt scratches? Now that the car is this nice, the windows look like %^#@*!!

Wait till you see the body. Tuesday I got a look at passenger side with the sand and buff done. HOLY CRAP IT'S GORGEOUS!!!!

You can make a real tough organisol with PPG DCC9355 adding some Dx1999 texture and some flattening agent. In lieu of that, and taking the rattle can route, Rustoleum Textured Black 7220 comes pretty close.

I did my aircleaner lid with rustoleum flat black, then put the lid on the floor, and held a can of silver paint about 4 feet in the air and lightly misted it over, so that the silver dispersed and fell into the flat black.

I really like how it came out. not sure if it's original or not, but a few of the AARs I've seen that were restored to "show car" status, the hoods seemed to have a bit of sparkle to them, they weren't just flat black.

this mimics that look and was cheap and easy.

Wow, Tom! Very cool. Look at all the different and great ideas here. Thanks to those who provided pictures. You guys are tops. Necessity is the mother of invention. I'm going to fiddle around with a few ideas and post my results. FPAP took my money so I guess the spoiler is on the way.

I'd recommend you finish it off in Organosol,....but if your looking for a somewhat quality/frugal priced replacement, Mar-Hyde black is a textured, semi gloss black, little to no reduction when spraying, depending on how "rough" you like it ,....they also offer it in sray bomb, but you get better results with a gun

Use the Krylon satin. The key is to hold the can away from the surface aprox 15" or so on the last two coats to get the texture to mimic the organasol. Practice with a scrap piece first. Try it, it works well.
