I am building a 440 and went to put the pan and pickup on today and the pickup interferes with the pan. I am using a cheap chrome baffled pan and a straight pickup. The pickup does not interfere with the baffles but with the rearward bottom of the sump right by the drain plug like the sump doesn't go back far enough. The pickup hits there not allowing the pan to fully seats. Is there anything I can do?
In this picture you can just see the oil pan on the floor.

Whoever makes yor oil pan probably makes the pickup you'll need. What pickup do you have?

The OEM type pick up, like the one you link to, is supposed to have a slight interference fit and contact the pan's floor.

Do you run a windage tray? If you don't, get one. The thickness of the tray and extra gasket may give you the clearance you need.

Three other options;
1-Add more threads with a 3/8" pipe die and trim the end so you can screw it in further.
2-Bend the tube up.
3-Buy a better pan, with matching pick up, that holds more oil than the 4qt one you have, yet doesn't hang down like the 8qt 7" deep pan, that's the MP repoped 6qt '70-'72 440HP/Hemi pan.

Thanks, I think I am going to run the 402 pan that is currently on my charger instead of modifying things to make this one fit.
