I used one for 6 years up until about 2 years ago, never had a single problem ever crop up with it.

We have several TB solenoids to work with & all can be made to function properly on-the-bench, but then act erradically [hit or miss] when installed in the vehicle.
Are you torqueing the bolts in the valvebody when you install it to the correct spec or just bolting them down?

Why don't you just call Griner? They probably are aware of that condition.

PM board member 727specialists . He assembles the valve bodies for Griner. I am not sure Griner himself ever talks on the phone.
Just called Keith, he is going to look in this thread.

Never had a problem with my Griner brake and have had it over 10 yrs. You could be getting electrical interference. I run mine thru a relay. Check your grounding of the brake also.

Have been trying to contact Griner for several weeks now. Not sure whether he's still in business as phone is never answered....
And, of course, ATI [the original supplier of the Griner TB valve body] won't [or can't?] deal with only the solenoid. They will gladly sell another complete assembly for $$$$ though...
Any leads on Griner would be appreciated as I'm not ready to swap the TF for a 'glide.
First thing I would do is take a line pressure reading

Just some thoughts. The line pressure was one of them, the other was electrical resistance in the solenoid circuit due to heat buildup. If you could test the solenoid ohms resistance cold, then hot, might show something? I run a relay, and big wire, never had a problem. Griner brake since 2001(?)

I just picked up a trans that has a griner brake. It will be my first brake. I have a question about the solenoid function. does it use oil pressure to hold it open or closed then when the button is pressed it changes? Doesnt seem there is a spring or anything in it to hold it one way or the other I was bench testing it to make sure the solenoid was good. Any info would be great.. Thanks

Griner transbrake is a fluid release design. Pressure acts on a differential area on the transbrake valve and closes off(pushes out the valve) the pressure from the transbrake hydraulic circuit when the button is not depressed. When the button is depressed, the solenoid pulls in and allows oil pressure to flow to the front clutch and low/rev band. When the button is released, solenoid pull force is absent, and the fluid pressure acting on the differential area forces the transbrake valve out, exhausting pressure from the direct clutches >>>> LAUNCH. The early solenoids do not have internal springs in them. The later ones do, but the spring is not necessary. Fluid release thru the differential area valve is what makes it function. Solenoid winding resistance should be about 1.5 ohms.
