What is the correct pinion angle on a A-body with SS spring ?

Nose down ? 4 deg from the level or the difference between the angle of the drive shaft ?

ss springs are supposed to be 7° nose down pinion in relation to tranny output shaft. here we go!!!!!!

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

The way the driveshaft angle was defined by the Chrysler engineers in the old drag seminars was the difference between the pinion angle(with it nose down) and the driveshaft angle If the driveshaft angle is set at 90 degrees on your angle finder (pointer straight up) then the pinion angle should be 83 degrees nose down to get 7 degrees difference, if looking from the side of the car towards the angle finder, it will be 83 degrees one way and read 97 degrees the other way Chrysler never really discussed the trans angle in the seminars(3 or 4) I attended back in the dark ages before the internet You will hear a lot of discusions on pinion angle on this forum based off of the trans angles in relation to the pinion angle Here we go agian , QUICKTREE where are you

I don't agree that 0* is the optimal operating angle. Vibration and power wise - certainly. But a u-joint needs 1-2* of operating angle to keep the joints from brinnelling, and that small amount will not cause a loss of power or vibration.

0° is the optimum operating angle under full acceleration, hence the 7° nose down pinion angle. 7° is the typical amount of rear axle housing rotation under full acceleration with ss springs. 0° between the output shaft of the transmission and the pinion. the output shaft angle plays an equal role in determining pinion angle. pinion angle can be adjusted using the output shaft as well as the differential housing. remember to have the suspension loaded as well. if the angle is set without considering output shaft angle, your actual pinion angle will likely be incorrect.

You can take the driveshaft, stick it in a hole and mount your mailbox on it for all it affects PINION ANGLE. Pinion angle is the angle of the centerline of the engine/trans compared to the centerline of the pinion. You want these centerlines parallel under power. About 1-2*'s of u-joint angle helps joint life. This has been beat to death before - the driveshaft doesn't even have to be in the car to check or set pinion angle.
