Until the mechanism breaks...I had a fairly new B&M shifter do that to me years ago, one of the springs on the ratcheting pawls broke right after the burnout, pulling up to the line...I lost that round when I could not ratchet back from 3rd to 1st gear...unless they've significantly improved on the ratcheting mechanism I'd stay away.

And for those with a stock console shifter, there is a company that makes a reverse gate pattern you can retrofit to the stock shifter...
