Occasionally, when turning a sharp right I'll get a horrendous clanging from the front right of my truck, that seems to change speed with the trucks' speed. Once I straighten out it goes away. It's also done it a few times while backing and turning right.

I've pulled/prodded everything I know how to, and it all seems tight. ball joints, wheel bearings, u-joint(s), tie rod(s), all seem fine. I also don't see any obvious signs of metal on metal contact.

I did discover a couple weeks ago that the hub on the front right was locked while in 2x4

My dad (who had the truck for the last 25 years) said it 'likes to eat front u-joints'.

Could it be the u-joint not liking the extreme angle?

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
