Clamping it like you are doing is wrong. You need to go back and read the instructions because you need to use the parts that came with the cable kit. The small sleeve goes over the end of the shortened housing to be clamped down at the bracket. The barrel with the adjuster is replaced with the piece you have on the carb that you attached the cable to.
