This is definitely something that depends on the person doing it. THE most critical part to getting a good chrome finish is the clear coat. IF you follow the instructions you are applying the chrome to a polished black surface. This is where its tricky. IF that first coat of clear does not dry fast...it wants to "float" the chrome off the black. There is literally no adhesion because you are putting it over a smooth, shiny surface. This is when people get a fuzzy or grey appearance instead of a clean chrome look. Alsa does make a 1K clear that works great for the first coat to lock it down. Just use any regular clear after that.
It is a tricky process and each time i do it, they come out a little better...LOL
