I was too young at the time, but as a lover of the Tigers, I've seen plenty of highlights. Bob was certainly intimidating. Al Kaline, Bill Freehan, Mickey Lolich, Norm Cash, Willie Horton and Denny McClain come to mind as Tiger greats from that team.

Denny was from Markham Illinois and had quite a difficult time after baseball.
I do remember. Gambling, alcohol and such.


I didn't intend to dogpile on Denny McLain - but since you bring him up. He somehow became a partner in a manufacturing company in Chesaning, MI. after his baseball days - the company employed quite a few people & they had a pension for all the retired & present employees - everybody paid into it. McLain & the other crooked people in charge cleverly pilfered all the funds & left zero in the account. The retired workers had nothing then. How's that for a real scoundrel? After hearing this story years ago, I could never respect McClain ever again. It takes a certain kind of bad to do something like that, & there ain't no cure.
