Thank guys,
Sure, pretty much any piece of metal that is cyclically stressed over time will break, from old age, located where there's any damage from rough handling (whether a prior owner, or himself).
I bet the potential for breakage is even higher with a car that has had many prior owners, many modifications, replacements, re-modifications - there is no way of knowing what could have been done to those bars during its rough life.
Thanks again,
- Art
