my old man's 92 dynasty did that when put into reverse every time. he bought the car with 10k on the clock, and when he sold it, there was over 100k on it, but i don't remember how much over. still had the original transaxle in it, and no repairs made to it over the years except fluid and filter changes.
does yours whine when putting it INTO reverse [like my old man's car], or does it whine while moving in reverse ?
