I use one on the street with good luck so far. Dual Spal 12" fans and the CVR pump and it will run 180 all day long in the hottest heat in the city and under 60 mph. The only thing I have noticed is the car runs a little warmer down the freeway at anything over 60. It's still at 200-205, but it used to stay at 195 so I think the flow is a little low. I run 4.30's in the rear so it would probably be ok with 3.91's or better.

Could be airflow thru the rad being restricted at speed by the fan assemblies.

I do not see the benefit of electric WP on the street. On a drag car, maybe... you can cool down on the return road and in the pits with a battery charger to help.

For street driving, I don't see it. Water flow is down and electrical requirements are up vs a reliable and well proven mechanical pump.

The big benefit I have seen so far is the ability to have the pump and fans run after I shut down to cool things in the engine compartment a little quicker. This has helped greatly with hot restarts. I run a mechanical pump so it really helps out when running crappy ethanol fuel. It also supplies full flow at idle and puttering in traffic which is where the car really struggled before. Since switching over to this combo I no longer fear being stuck in traffic.

That may be the case and I may test that by putting a mechanical pump back in to test. Since the 205 degrees doesn't cause issues I don't know that I'll even bother. Time will tell...

There are different factors as you mentioned. One thing to remember is that an electric water pump operates at a constant speed while a mechanical pump varies with RPM. Here's one of the few articles I could find that addresses that issue.
