Has anyone seen or can recommend a chart or quick reference of crank shaft identification for small and big blocks?

Mike

They pretty much all look the same , other than Hemi's having 8 bolt flanges .

What you need is a pair of dial calipers and measure main and/or rod bearing journal sizes.

running up my post count some more .

Yes, the main bearing journal is all you need to know:
2.500", 3.31 stroke (LA not 360)
2.625", 3.38 stroke (B)
2.75", 3.75 stroke (RB)
2.825", 3.58 stroke (LA 360)

360 cast only, others both cast and forged OEM.
R.

Also visual cast & forged crank I.D. Some cast cranks originally came with counterweights on the balancer/damper & converter. But not all. 318 is a good example. I believe the 440-6 crank balancer/damper may be an exception in forged cranks and had external balance weights.
