What is the best wrinkle finish paint for restoring 69 road runner air cleaner?

When this question pops up, a lot of people suggest powder coat. It's the most durable and the finish comes out even across the entire piece. The size of the wrinkles is a little different then stock though...as per the posts I've read.

There are several wrinkle paint brands on the market. I used VHT on my Challenger heater bezels. I think they turned out really nice. I've heard good things about the Harley Davidson brand of wrinkle paint as well.

I recently used the Seymour brand wrinkle. I like the results. It does take a long time to wrinkle on its own. I ended up using a heat gun to help it along.

I lay down a base coat of regular black, then the wrinkle over that, and use a heat gun. The original ones had inconsistent texture, by the way. VHT is decent.

Thanks everyone. VHT is the only one that I knew about so I'll go with that.

Probably easiest to find @ most auto parts stores. Eastwood also sells a wrinkle finish.

Done it both ways, powder coat and spray bomb. Powder coat (below) came out the nicest. Spray bomb will work, but practice on something before you engage the cleaner.

VHT on the Valve Covers as I was in a hurry and didn’t want to wait for turn around time on a new motor

More inconsistent, heat gun or direct sun really helps - Pretty durable so far

Directions say you can use an oven for final cure or the heat of the motor also

Leave a few days for handling time

I heat the piece to 170 degrees in an kitchen ovens lowest setting prior to spraying.

Then spray VHT can and back in oven to 300 deg 20 min.

Very consistent. I can file my nails on the wrinkle. The baked paint is very durable.

I pulled that stunt once, The kitchen smelled like a paint booth for a couple of hours. It did not go over too good with the wife...

Do that to an intake manifold...and when the smoke starts rolling out remember that you didn't take the heat shield off.
