Did all 1971 Duster 340s come with a charcoal canister?
Does anyone have pictures of the proper routing of one?

Not to confuse things but my 71 340 Duster is a late build and has from the factory a 1972 fender apron. It has the indentation for the canister but the dimple holes for the bracket were never drilled. The line coming from under the car into the passenger side of the engine compartment also is upturned 90 degrees as opposed to the usual straight end that goes to the breather on the valve cover for 1971. No canisters for 1971.

Many 71's I believe is the year that the evap emissions from the fuel tank and carb went to the pass side valve cover breather and the evap fumes went into the crankcase. Then they were pulled into the eng and burnt through the PCV system. I dont remember if thats the way the 71 Duster 340 was but it may have been. I think most used the charcoal canister in 72. Ron

CA cars had a NOX valve (on the pass side firewall, see pic) and the return vent line to the tank, 49 state cars did not. No charcoal canister until 1972.

The NOX valve had it's own wire harness extension, manual and auto trans versions were unique.

The valve shown here was only used on automatic versions.

However I think it was only certain engines that got the NOX valve.

I'm pretty sure it was all engines Morty but I am only speaking to 71 340 A-body cars right now.

Automatic themoswitch used an angled bracket, manual was the smaller flat looking version (harness not installed on manual version pic).

I've noticed some small variables in the shields, not sure why

Any source for reasonably priced 3-nipple PVC breathers?

I see them at swap meets often. I probably have a few in the shed though mine are used originals.

I don't care about originality, just need something functional
