340wedge master Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,763 Myrtle Beach, SC formerly the ...	Not to confuse things but my 71 340 Duster is a late build and has from the factory a 1972 fender apron. It has the indentation for the canister but the dimple holes for the bracket were never drilled. The line coming from under the car into the passenger side of the engine compartment also is upturned 90 degrees as opposed to the usual straight end that goes to the breather on the valve cover for 1971. Md	Many 71's I believe is the year that the evap emissions from the fuel tank and carb went to the pass side valve cover breather and the evap fumes went into the crankcase. Then they were pulled into the eng and burnt through the PCV system. I dont remember if thats the way the 71 Duster 340 was but it may have been. I think most used the charcoal canister in 72. Ron

ScottSmith_Harms Mr Wizzard Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 42,714 Spokane Washington	CA cars had a NOX valve (on the pass side firewall, see pic) and the return vent line to the tank, 49 state cars did not. No charcoal canister until 1972. The NOX valve had it's own wire harness extension, manual and auto trans versions were unique.

Automatic themoswitch used an angled bracket, manual was the smaller flat looking version (harness not installed on manual version pic).
