I'm old school and want to learn about G3 Hemis

I'm old school and want to learn about G3 Hemis - 01/09/22 04:34 PM

I have done lots of cars with carbureted big and small block motors.
I bought a 67 Dart project car and it came with a 5.7 gen3 Hemi.
I am interested in learning about the Hemi so I can make the swap in the Dart but I know very little about the motor and the systems needed to make it run.
Does anyone know of any good books that will explain the workings of the motor and what systems I need? I need something like "Hemis for Dummies"!
I don't mind looking at stuff online but I would like to find some kind of books.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help!

It's not just hemis any new motor using fuel injection uses sensors/computers(transmissions also) to run it. Depending on what you plan on putting in and what trans, carbed or efi is what you need to learn about. You can use a modern hemi and convert it to carb/ distributor ignition if you wanted.

There was a swap book, "New Hemi Engine Swaps: How to Swap 5.7L & 6.1L Hemi Engines into Almost Anything" by Joe Hinds, but it is out of print. You could look around and see if you can find it. There are several Gen 3 Hemi engine building books available:

Some online Gen 3 Hemi engine articles:

There was a Gen 3 Hemi swap series on a Dart in Mopar Connection online magazine that may be helpful: https://moparconnectionmagazine.com/the-ultimate-a-body-hemi-swap-guide-with-project-orange-crush/

Holley has a lot of good information and comprehensive swap systems. They just added 1973-1976 A bodies. I suspect the earlier A bodies, like your Dart, will be added soon: https://www.holley.com/products/engine_swap_parts/hemi_swap_systems/

DIY Hemi is also a good site for harness and ECM info: https://www.diyhemi.com/

Another excellent harness and ECM site is hotwire at: https://www.hotwireauto.com/

This is just scratching the surface. Lots of knowledgeable folks have posted swap info on this site as well.

Thanks everyone!
I'm more interested in learning about the Hemi more than I am about the swap.
Things like sensors, VVT things like that.
I will look threw the stuff everyone posted and start learning.
I don't know what trans I will use. I have a 904 but I want to run something with overdrive and still fit in the tunnel without much modification.
The car won't be raced but I want the Trans strong enough to handle around 400-450 HP.
I have a spare 8 3/4 that I plan to use in place of the 7 1/4.
Thanks again for your help!
