Any Holley HP users here?

Any Holley HP users here? - 03/08/19 02:59 PM

I am hooking up a HP in my 6.1 hemi swap. Went from DBW to cable throttle body. The TB IAC and TPS are different than the Holley harness it connects to. Goes from 4 to 3 wires and 3 to 2 for the TPS. The kit came with the new connectors, but the instructions don’t cover it. Holley wasn’t much help when I called them. The schematics didn’t reveal much either.

Thanks in advance.

I have Holley HP on mine with a cable throttle body. What part number main harness do you have and what throttle body/iac are you trying to control?

Oh my, you are a God send.

115 main harness, BBK 85 mm 1792 throttle body.

I was kind of hoping you wouldn't say the BBK hemi one. The non-dbw Holley harness has the 3 wires for a 5v reference TPS (5v, ground, signal) and 4 wires for a dual coil stepper type IAC. Holley uses the Chrysler IAC in their universal throttle bodies so the 115 harness is already wired correctly for the standard Chrysler 4 pin IAC.

The problem is that BBK decided to use the obscure 4.7 v8 IAC and TPS. I have tried to find control strategy for them in the past (and again today) with no luck. The most direct route would be to get an adapter plate and run a GM throttle body. That gets you a standard GM TPS and stepper motor. Less direct is a Ford fox body era 5.0 style throttle body but that uses a PWM output to control the IAC. I wish I could be of more help on the BBK throttle body/electronics.

Well crap. This may have been an almost $500 mistake. Appreciate the help.

So how did you use the HP? I am accepting I have lost money on this venture with Holley.

I wouldn't give up on that throttle body just yet, someone may have figured it out by now.

Mine is an old Ford style throttle body that I had laying around the shop collecting dust. I slotted the holes and bolted it right on. Had to make a throttle cable bracket. Because I bought mine before Holley offered a cable drive harness, it had no provisions for tps or iac so I had to wire them in myself. For yours, you would be able to use the existing 3 wires for the tps. The 4 wires for the iac would be discarded and you would have to use one of your pwm outputs to drive the iac.

A GM throttle body would use the same 3 wires for tps and same 4 wires for iac, just different order in a different plug end. Would be the easiest solution with the least wiring involved and still leave all 4 of your outputs.

Thanks much for that information. I will speak with the Holley techs after I am approved for membership-hard to believe I need approval, my $$$$ should have done that.
In the meantime I will try to find a GM adapter plate and I think I can get a TB cheap off Craigslist I bet.

You ride is awesome BTW.

Thank you!

Keep us posted on what you find out. I'm more than happy to help with wiring if you do end up going with a GM throttle body. And also if you run into any other Holley issues.

Finally got on to the Holley forum and contacted Rich(Fastman EFI), he totally straightened me out. Cost me a bit in parts, but not as bad as it could have been.

Awesome, glad you got it figured out! Could you post a link? Would like to learn as well.

No link. He sent me his phone number and....shock.....had me call him. He gave about a half hour of his time to me. No charge, or even a mention of it. That has earned him my business. He has online classes as well as tuning etc.
