G3 Motor Plate and Water Pump Configuration - 07/18/18 04:21 PM

Hello All,

Thoughts on the choice/function for motor plate and water pump configuration please...

I see the AEI plate vs the other shown style which has a cut to mimic the OEM water pump channeling on the front cover. As can be seen, the AEI plate covers the OEM front cover water passages and bolts the aftermarket pump as per usual method. The other style as noted exposes the front cover water passages and bolts on a water pump adapter (shown in red on drag pak motor) and then the water pump goes on after that.

We know they both accomplish the same thing, but would one method be preferred over the other for whatever reason(s)?

Thanks!

The AEI plate is much less expensive solution since you can run a BBC pump. The water pump adapter and water pump from Meziere is almost $900.

Doing this cost analysis now.

If you run a (CSR pump...a price point in the middle of Summit/Preform and Meziere) trim the cover yourself and fab your own alternator mount, my estimated AEI cost is just over $600

If you add AEI labor to trimming the front cover and their billet alternator mount, the cost increases to $914

Meziere plate - $285
Meiziere pump - $681
Total $966

If the AEI plate was trimmed like the joshking440 plate (at the lower drivers side) to expose/use the front cover mounting bosses, a simple alternator mounting setup could be used - maybe even OEM style if they have one for that location.

When you take into account the motor mount function of the motor plate...

Motor mounts - $270
Total $1236
