Gen 3 into early A?

Gen 3 into early A? - 07/07/18 05:29 PM

I'm eyeballing a 64 Dart and wondering how hard it would be to put in a Gen 3. It's a 4 speed /6 car and I'd like to keep the 4 speed. Thanks bow

I couldn't figure any way to get exhaust into one without cutting up inner fenders so there is that. I tried a bunch of different mainfolds and searched high and low for anyone selling headers but couldnt find any.

I can't believe how narrow early A bodies are.

Pretty much what I found on my 65 Cuda. Looked like if maybe I went with an MII front suspension and redid the inner fenders then maybe it could work, but that was more mods than I wanted to do.

It's been done, but it's more than just swapping engines.

I found this thread about it. TL/DR guy never finished it-due to school and has dropped off the forum. Coil over conversion and removing/cutting the inner fenders is a must. Not what I wanted to see, but if I pull the trigger on the car, it's not getting a Gen 3.

I did a mock up to see what would fit in a 65 Dart. The SRT8 jeep exhaust manifolds can be used if you go to coilover shocks and pitch the torsion bars. Then all that is needed is to trim the trans case a bit on the drivers side upper corner. For steering I had to use a double knuckle u joint to go around the manifold, but I have a home built rack and pinion system in it with a five inch narrowed rack to work with stock upper and lower suspension arms. If you go with a system that uses a stock width MII rack, it moves the steering shaft out 2.5 inches toward the fender, making the steering issue a lot easier I am sure. I bailed on the Hemi and went 408 stroker, so I still have the Hemi core motor and the manifolds, which I intend to sell. PM me if you have more questions.
You can see pictures on FABO in the early A section, under home built rack and pini0on.

Not true on cutting the inner fenders. I posted on using SRT8 manifolds and coilovers. Custom headers could be built also I assume.
